Step-Up Meeting for Students Entering Grades 6-8 Next Year
Tuesday, January 22 @ 6:30 p.m. in Rm 252

Central Day School offers a unique opportunity for students in grades 6-8 where they are nurtured and challenged in a loving, personal way. Preparation for high school as well as college begins in our middle school by developing future leaders who are taught to think critically and compassionately. On Tuesday, January 22 at 6:30 p.m., parents who currently have children in grades 5 - 7 are invited to hear the testimonies of former CDS families on the benefits of staying at CDS through the eighth grade. This "step-up" meeting located in Room 252 will encourage you with the successes of our alumni and their accomplishments. Any questions may be directed to Linda Stephens at lindastephens@centraldayschool.com.

CDS Prepares for Re-Accreditation
Central Day School is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Independent Schools (SAIS), and also the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Additionally we are members of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), and the Memphis Association of Independent Schools (MAIS). These prestigious organizations help to provide credibility, standards of excellence, and ongoing professional development which are vital to the growth of our school.

CDS was initially accredited in 2007, and is now up for re-accreditation according to the standards established by SAIS. In preparation for the Accreditation visit scheduled for this spring, our teachers and staff have worked tirelessly in the ongoing process of school improvement which are inherent within the accreditation standards. Additionally, in keeping with the standards put forward by SAIS, the bylaws of our school board have been modified to allow for broader representation of its members from within the church. These are nominated positions which are selected according to particular areas of expertise they may bring to the board. Further, the name of the board has been changed to "Advisory Council," which is more in line with the role of its members, and which organizationally, are still under the Board of Elders of Central Church. We are thankful to the Lord for bringing such talented and committed individuals to our school, as they are excited to be a part of this great work. Click here to find out more about the Advisory Council members.

Flu Season Is Here
Please Follow the Sick Child Policy
The seasonal flu is in full swing in our community. Although we have not had a significant number of cases in our school, we are reminding students to follow good hygiene practices:
  • Wash your hands often, particularly before eating.
  • Maintain sound sanitary practices like covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue.
  • Do not come to school with a fever and flu symptoms.

For the protection of everyone, we urge parents to please keep any student home that exhibits symptoms of the flu. Our school policy states that students may not return to school until they have been fever-free for 24 hours without medication or have not thrown up or had diarrhea for 24 hours.  If a child becomes ill at school parents are expected to pick up the child up within 30 minutes of contact from the school office. Thanks for your cooperation and be well!

Brain Teaser

Study this paragraph and all things in it. What is vitally wrong with it? Actually, nothing in it is wrong, but you must admit that it is most unusual. Don't just zip through it quickly, but study it scrupulously. With luck you should spot what is so particular about it and all words found in it. Can you say what it is? Tax your brains and try again. Don't miss a word or a symbol. It isn't all that difficult?

Last Week's:

I went on a trip last week. The traffic was moderate and the journey took two and a half hours. On the return journey, the traffic was similar, but I made it back in 150 minutes. How come?

Last Week's Answer:

They are both the same. 2.5 hours = 150 minutes
