|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Dear Friends, Something has happened that can only be described as inexplicable, and borders on miraculous. Yesterday, The State Journal-Register, a National High School Finals Rodeo sponsor, published the hardest-hitting article to date exposing the criminal animal abuses at the National High School Finals Rodeo. Not only did the Journal-Register blaze this article on the front page of the Sunday edition and their website, but it is also followed by a companion article detailing the incompetence of the Illinois Ag Department to enforce its humane laws.For everyone concerned about changing the plight of animals in rodeos, these articles are a must-read! If you only read one thing from SHARK all year, this is IT.Click HERE to read the Springfield bomb: "Video Reveals Rodeo Abuse" This Journal-Register article puts those in the rodeo associations and the Illinois government in a nowhere-to-run position. We must use this opportunity to blast the hole the abusers are hiding in wide open!
After you read the articles and watch our undeniable video footage, please take these three crucial actions: 1. Contact The State Journal-Register and let them know how much you appreciate their coverage of this issue. For a newspaper that is an NHSFR sponsor and surrounded by a community of rodeo supporters, it took some serious journalistic nerve for the Journal-Register to break from their safe cover with the Rodeo Minions.Letters to the Editor are also a good way of keeping this in the news. The Rodeo Mafia is sure to strike hard at the Journal- Register, and this newspaper will need to hear from the compassionate public. Click Here to Email a Letter to the Editor or Write: The State Journal-RegisterOne Copley Plaza P.O. Box 219 Springfield, IL, 62705-0219, Fax: (217) 788-1551 While you are thanking the Journal-Register, please urge the paper to halt their future sponsorships of rodeos such as the NHSFR. Remind them that their own reporters have made it crystal clear that neither the rodeo organizers nor those in charge of policing them can be trusted to uphold humane practices. 2. Contact Governor Blagojevich (AGAIN!) and let him know that the Journal-Register article has you appalled at how his administration has subsidized the abusive rodeo industry and ignored their blatant criminal acts. DEMAND that the Governor give a written response and quit hiding behind his Ag Department cronies.
The Honorable Rod Blagojevich 3. Please contact Bruce Rushton, the reporter who investigated and wrote this story, and express your admiration and support for his courageous efforts to shine true journalism on the shady practices of the NHSRA and the Illinois [Gov. Blagojevich's] Ag. Department. Bruce Rushton can be reached at (217) 788-1542 or via email at bruce.rushton@sj- r.com.Please go to IllinoisCorruption.com to see SHARK's video exposing shocking, spiking, and other abuses such as foul-roping calves, at the National High School Finals Rodeo. ![]()
![]() You may remember SHARK's exposure of the the tragic deaths of at least 2 horses during the making last year of the new movie version of My Friend Flicka. One of the horses was killed during the staging of a "Wild Horse Stampede." The horses used in the filming were used to working in rodeos, where "Wild Horse" events are notoriously dangerous and commonly lead to injuries and even deaths. Said Roland Vincent, the extra on the set who reported the death and was subsequently fired for it by Fox Productions, "The horses were absolutley terrified and were running for their lives. In the process, the horse tripped on its own rope, and fell down and another horse kicked him in the head, and that horse was in a spasm and died a horrible death."Flicka is scheduled to premier in theaters on October 20, 2006. The horses killed by those involved in making this movie should not be forgotten. Please do not patronize this film made from the real terror and pain of horses. We hope that true animal lovers will give this movie a big thumbs down. Go to MyDeadFlicka.com to learn more about this tragedy, the conflict of interest of the agency charged with overseeing humane animal care, and to see "Wild Horse Race" footage. Please contact those involved in the production of this movie and let them know the use of horses in such an irresponsible manner will not be tolerated by the compassionate movie- going public.Even if you have watched it before, please take just 11 minutes to view our "Rodeo Reality" video--examples of the Wild Horse events are included.
