Women Leadership Council Update

The Women's Leadership Council Of YIBE met on Monday, March 24, 2014. It was a very warm and productive meeting held at Bea Pollock's lovely home which is centrally located. We have decided to continue having our meetings at her home. She served beautifully and made each one of us feel like a special honored guest.

On May 4th, 2014 to commemorate Yom Hashoah, our member, Renee Minkowitz, a docent at the Museum of Jewish Heritage will lead a tour at 12 pm.

The cost is $15 in advance payable at the Shul office 718-435-9020 or on the website www.YIBethel.org and a price of $20 on the day of the event. Please call Rochel at YIBE office 718-435-9020 if you also want to be included in private van service at the cost of $15 per person for the round trip. Additional information is forthcoming.

On May 20th, we are planning a special speaker who has survived the Holocaust and the story of rebuilding a religious life in the shadows of the Holocaust. Details will be forthcoming.

Our meeting was a very big success filled with lots of achdut and comraderie. We look forward to welcoming all of you to our events and our meetings. Sarita closed our meeting with a Dvar Torah Le Ilui Nishmas Sheina Ruchel Bas Ben Zion Hacohen on her 9th Yartzeit last Shabbos. Sarita told us how her mother, Charlotte Silber Kline always gave a Dvar Torah at every AMIT executive board meeting and reminded us that when 3 people sit at a table, Divrei Torah must be said. We have decided to incorporate this teaching into our framework.

The Beilis Blood Libel
A documentary tale of truth and humanity confronting deceit and power

On March 12, 1817, Czar Alexander I of Russia declared the Blood Libel -- the infamous accusation that Jews murdered Christian children to use their blood in the baking of matzah for Passover, for which thousands of Jews were massacred through the centuries -- to be false. Nevertheless, nearly a hundred years later the accusation was officially leveled against Mendel Beilis in Kiev. (chabad.org)

In the Beilis trial of 1913, false accusations of ritual murder were leveled against the Jewish people generally, and the chassidic movement specifically. This documentary vividly reconstructs the events as they unfolded, through a series of interviews with experts, alongside period photographs and press clippings.
