Spiritual Development...
A thump is heard.  A scream echoes. A siren blares.  A team of doctors feverishly work to restore life into the motionless body.

This is a synopsis of the beginning of a tale that was related to me about a stroke patient while I was volunteering in a physical therapy clinic.  It was a tale marked by challenge and incessant difficulty.  As I watched the young stroke patient struggling to smoothly swing his foot forward in order to initiate the beginning of the gait cycle, I silently cheered him on.  After he was moderately successful at crudely throwing his foot forward, I was filled with enthusiasm for his accomplishment.  After all, I have been with this patient for approximately 7 months of intense rehabilitation and finally he can begin the process of walking.

I began to think about how our spiritual development is similarly patterned.  We also venture through the labyrinth of life and may experience spiritual "injuries."  Like the courageous patient who devoted so many hours of his life to strengthen his body, we too can grow and blossom by putting in as much effort as possible to strengthen our spirituality.  Let's inspire and challenge each other to grow in ruchnius and then we will be on the path of placing our leg forward.
