Carlebach Shabbaton
There is no exaggeration on the saying that "only after the passing of an luminary does the world just begin to take notice." The man referred to here is none other than the late great Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach of Blessed Memory.
Certainly both in Israel and in the complete Jewish diaspora does this hold true, as Reb Shlomo revolutionized Jewish music; there is hardly a simcha where at least 30 percent of the music played was not composed by Reb Shlomo.
He was moreover a true "renaissance Jew" utilizing his Torah scholarship, incredibly simple but soul stirring music compositions (he actually claimed that he was merely bringing the melodies down from heaven) and his uncanny prowess as a storyteller extraordinaire. He singularly spear headed a tremendous Baal Teshuva movement in the late 20th century with a term he coined "Inreach." In addition he gave many affiliated Jews new meaning as he infused joy in their observance and spiritual growth.
Join us this Shabbos as Young Israel Beth El celebrates its Annual Carlebach Shabbos on his 19th Yahrzeit. Please see our Schedule of Events.
