What is the most important moment of your life? This moment!
It is during the current moment that you can appreciate all that life has to offer. In one of my psychology courses, I was introduced to the concept of mindfulness--the deliberate direction of attention to the task or experience that is currently occurring. Mindfulness is about being in the moment and not thinking about experiences of the past or anticipating events in the future. Engaging in mindfulness brings about a sense of tranquility and enhances concentration, attention, and focus.
G-d has given us the opportunity to practice mindfulness every time we go to shul to daven--contemporaneously dubbed "passage mediation." Congregants in our shul have commented that they were not just spiritually uplifted by the potent words of the tefilla, the eloquent dvar torah, or the soul tingling chazzanut--they felt like they were changed.
This is not just a metaphor; neuroscientists have discovered through brain scan technology that the brain actually changes--structurally and functionally during mindfulness training. By focusing on the words of the tefilla, internalizing the prayer, and appreciating the current moment, you too can leave our beautiful shul uplifted and transformed.

Sisterhood Update
The Sisterhood Planning Committee met this week and we are Moving Forward towards our goal of creating a warm group of women focused on making people feel welcomed in shul, informed through important lectures and actualized through interesting events. A zillion ideas were discussed--from events on Table Esthetics and Food Decorating, to lectures on Women and Heart Disease. Why not join us?
Click Here to email for more information or to get involved. Or call the shul at (718) 435-2090 and leave a message for us.
