Much of the world has been gripped by a special grief this week. The terrorist attacks in Paris seem particularly painful for us and so very close to home. This attack, following close on others, has particularly shocked the conscience and rattled our equilibrium. Such grief hurts in a special way. It is a double-dose of fear and sorrow. Grief requires us to stand, to endure, to hang on, and hurt and wait. Sometimes that is what our faith calls us to do. This is not nearly as popular as miracles and solutions, but sometimes patience and calm and endure are words of the Lord.

Healing is also a word of the Lord. Healing is a sign of God's work. Our God is a healer; it's the way God does things. Healing means bringing things together, making them whole. Our God created us to share with him in healing creation, picking up broken pieces and lives, bringing nations into harmony, reconciling people and in making whole that which is inside of us.

Here at St. Alban's we are in the healing business. I see it all around us in our worship, our prayers, our ministries and our song. Come and see. Come and become the healing we and this wide world needs.

Blessings and thanks,

 The Reverend Timothy Boggs, Rector

This Sunday
The Angel Tree
Each year, generous St. Alban's parishioners help make Christmas a magical time for children and teenagers living in downtown Portland. Please watch for the Angel Silhouette Nov 22nd. We ask that unwrapped gifts are returned to St. Alban's by Wednesday,

Thank you !

You can see some of the meaning of these gifts in our own and our neighbors' lives here.

The Resurrection at Work Within Us
In the midst of heartrending pain, and at the edge of a growing memorial to those killed in Paris, this father showInline image 1s his son that there are symbols more powerful than that of the firearm and the bullet, and indeed that many more of us carry these symbols of love than are carrying the symbols of fear. The Love-Symbols are powerful because we imbue them with the strength of our hearts, fired by the enduring Spirit and truth of God's hope for a reconciled world.
In this father's words and in the visible lifting on his son's spirit, we see the embodied truth that even as we live and breathe, a resurrection more powerful than death is alive in us through our daily acts of compassion.
