NIHB Success with the Tribal Days of Action!
NIHB travels around Indian Country to spread the word about the Affordable Care Act
NIHB traveled to different places in Arizona, New Mexico, South Dakota, Alaska, Oklahoma, and Texas to conduct various Affordable Care Act training on AI/AN provisions, Healthcare 101 and Exemption Waivers.
NIHB assisted and trained over 1,400 individuals during these events and helped enroll families in affordable healthcare plans. NIHB would like to thank all of their partners who helped make these events a success.
Tax Season is officially here!
What you need to know about taxes as an American Indian or Alaska Native

Open enrollment is now over for millions of Americans including American Indian and Alaska Natives (AI/AN) and it is now tax season! Members of federally recognized tribes have a special monthly enrollment period and they can enroll in health coverage throughout the year. They can also use their Indian Health Service (IHS) facility as their primary care provider. IHS is not Health Insurance, and to avoid paying the Shared Responsibility Payment for not holding minimum essential coverage AI/AN'S must file an exemption! IRS form 8965, found here must be completed along with your taxes. Visit the healthcare website here for more information.
It is important for AI/AN individuals and families to learn about their insurance options and get covered. Not only do the individuals benefit from insurance but it also helps Indian Health Service facilities, Tribal 638 and urban clinics as well. Through third party billing, these resources become more available to everyone because those Purchased and Referred Care dollars go right back into the facilities.
