This Month at Setnor

We are not letting cold weather stop us from a busy schedule this February. This month, student recitals really start to pick up, and continue through the end of the semester.  We are thrilled to witness each student's progress and help them celebrate their achievements.  Several of our very talented faculty members will also be featured this month as part of our faculty recital series.

Our campaign to transform Setnor into an All-Steinway School is well underway.  A new Steinway Model B piano has arrived, given in honor of Chuck Klaus.  Pictured above is the new piano with Professor Ida Tili-Trebicka.  Upon completion of the campaign, Setnor will be one of only 160 institutions around the globe to achieve this prestigious status.

We are missing a few faces this semester. Our Strasbourg Music Program students have arrived in France and have begun study at the Conservatoire National de Region de Strasbourg. The program is designed for students in the fourth semester of a Bachelor of Music or B.A. in Music degree program. At the Conservatoire, students take lessons on their principal instrument and may participate in an orchestra or ensemble group, with the opportunity to gain performance experience in Europe through end-of-semester concerts.

Alumni News

Since graduating from Setnor, Samuel Emanuel BM '11 (Performance) has been quite busy!  As a freelance pianist in NYC, he worked for the Bronx Opera, and also was assistant conductor for the New Rochelle Opera.  He then earned a Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. During his time at IU he also worked as a Graduate Assistant for the IU Opera Theater.  Following this, he spent a few months in Berlin, Germany, studying German and taking some auditions for a job in an opera house.

Most recently, Mr. Emanuel has accepted a new position as "Korrepetitor mit Dirigierverpflichtung" at the Staatstheater Braunschweig in Germany.  This opera company has been around since 1690.  Mr. Emanuel's main responsibilities include accompanying on piano for opera rehearsals and helping vocalists work on their roles.  He hopes to add conducting to his workload in the future.
