This Month at Setnor
December is a complex month in the Setnor School of Music. Our students are busy performing concerts and recitals, playing for juries, writing term papers, and sitting for final examinations. All of this happens before they depart for the holidays on December 14. Concerts range from holiday favorites performed during 'Holidays at Hendricks' to the Contemporary Music Ensemble playing the latest works by our own student composers. Please join us for what will be an interesting and diverse assortment of musical offerings.

Campaign for New Marching Band Uniforms
Syracuse University will join the Atlantic Coast Conference in July. This will move us into some new major media markets, thus increasing the Setnor School of Music's name recognition. Our Marching Band, which is our most visible ensemble, will be introduced to whole new audiences. We would like the band to be in new uniforms that reflect SU's tradition, school spirit, and Orange pride! Therefore, we are reaching out to our alumni, community members, and loyal donors to help us re-outfit the band. We need to place the uniform order in February. We are blessed with a lead donor who has offered a challenge gift of $75,000. This means that every donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar. Please join us in this campaign by donating online at http://vpa.syr.edu/alumni/get-involved/donate or by contacting the VPA Advancement Office at 315-443-7095.

Student Spotlight
Philomena Duffy is a Senior Music Education major also pursuing performance honors in oboe. She is currently a music instructor in the trumpet section of the Syracuse University Marching Band. Philomena joined the SUMB as a freshman expecting to fulfill her music education requirement and end her career of marching there. She credits the family-like bonds that are formed within the band as motivating her to stay in the marching band for four years. Philomena is also the music director for Main Squeeze, an all-girls a cappella group, which was founded in 2002. Since then they have grown exponentially, placing 3rd at the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella semifinals. They are now beginning the process of recording their own album. When Philomena graduates, she plans on going to grad school for music education. If you would like further information on Main Squeeze, or are interested in auditioning for the 2013-2014 academic year, please contact Philomena at mainsqueezesu@gmail.com.
