Registration for the 2016 Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences is now open. Register by March 31 to take advantage of our early bird rates.
 
Congress 2016 will run from May 28 to June 3 at the University of Calgary. This year's program brings back the best of Congress including Career Corner, Expo, interdisciplinary symposia and high-profile Big Thinking speakers. We are pumped for Congress 2016, are you?

Big Thinking on the Hill with law professor Jocelyn Downie, February 23
The Big Thinking lecture series returns to Parliament Hill on February 23 with a talk by Jocelyn Downie, Trudeau Fellow and professor in the faculties of law and medicine at Dalhousie University. Downie will discuss the human rights, ethical and legal choices confronting Canadians around end-of-life care and doctor-assisted suicide. Registration coming soon.
Federation announces Strategic Plan 2016-2020
The Federation has announced a new Strategic Plan for 2016-2020 building on previous plans and incorporating feedback from a member consultation this fall.

Op-ed: Focusing on the human sciences
In his RE$EARCH MONEY op-ed, Executive Director of the Federation Jean-Marc Mangin discusses the importance of human-focused research in a national science policy and of rebalancing research funding to reflect the contributions of the humanities and social sciences. 
Canada Prizes jury announced
The Federation is pleased to announce the 2016 Canada Prizes Jury, including renowned scholars and public intellectuals such as Joseph Heath, Bronwyn Drainie, Daniel B�land and Steven Guilbeault.

Highlights from the SSH community
SSHRC Storytellers contest accepting submissions until January 29
Can you tell a compelling research story in three minutes or 300 words? Enter SSHRC's annual Storytellers contest by January 29 to share your story. The Top 25 finalists will have the chance to attend Congress 2016 for a special communications master class and to deliver a live presentation at the Storytellers Showcase.
2016 Pre-Budget Consultations
The Minister of Finance has officially launched the Government's pre-budget consultations and, as a first step, has called upon Canadians for input to Budget 2016. The Federation will be preparing a submission and is interested to hear from members who would like to provide input and/or are planning to make a submission of their own.
