Big Thinking on Parliament Hill November 21st

Registration for the next Big Thinking lecture is open! On November 21st, "After Snowden: What now for a free and open Internet?" will be presented by Ron Deibert, Director of the Munk School of Global Affairs' Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto. This lecture will address the current outlook for cyber-security, and what recent revelations about surveillance will mean for a free, open, and secure Internet. Federation developing an Open Access policy for ASPP

The Federation is undertaking a major multi-year initiative to develop an Open Access policy for ASPP as a key priority in 2013-2015. As Canada's single largest supporter of scholarly books in the humanities and social sciences, the Federation is taking a leadership role on this issue. Find out more about the Federation's plans to facilitate thorough and wide-ranging discussions on the subject and how to participate in the consultation process.

Canada Prize juries announced
|
Made up of past winners, respected scholars and public intellectuals, the Canada Prize juries have the enviable task of choosing the best scholarly books in the humanities and social sciences that have received funding from the Awards to Scholarly Publications Program (ASPP) in the past year. Pictures and biographies of the jurors for 2014 can be found on the Canada Prize webpage. The Canada Prize finalists will be announced in the late winter, and the winners will be announced in spring 2014.

Royal Society of Canada 2013 Annual Symposium

The Royal Society of Canada's 2013 Annual Symposium, Social Justice in the 21st Century: A new Intergenerational Contract features keynote speaker Shawn Atleo, National Chief to the Assembly of First Nations, alongside renowned economist Armine Yalnizyan, social justice advocate Judy Rebick, and a number of other recognized authorities in these issues. SSHRC Storytellers competition returns

The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) recently launched the second edition of Research for a Better Life: the Storytellers, a competition that aims to show how research in the humanities and social sciences can be practically applied to address important issues and help improve the lives of Canadians. The Top 25 finalists of the competition will be given the opportunity to attend Congress 2014 to present their stories in the SSHRC Storytellers Showcase event.
