Teacher Spotlight

"[My sister and I] had to face many obstacles. But now, we have achieved our goals. Our advice to other girls is that nothing is impossible in the world. To get an education, you should do each and every thing possible, even if you have to fight with cultural norms."

- Zahra and Farida, Iqra Fund teachers and former Secondary Scholarship Students

How Far a $ Goes

$125 sends 1 girl to primary school for 1 year.

$3,750 sends an entire classroom to primary school for 1 year.

$125,000 establishes girls' education for an entire valley with 33 classrooms and 1,000 students.

Thank you!

Dear Iqra Fund Community,

Today, at the start of our students' spring semester in 2015, Iqra Fund has far exceeded our dreams.  We have more than 2,170 students receiving a quality education under 50 teachers in four districts of Gilgit-Baltistan. We have come a long way since our founding in 2011, and we have ambitious goals for changing the futures of many more girls.

You have and can continue to make this a reality.

During the past eight years of working in Pakistan, I continue to hear mothers say some version of the following: "I want an education for my daughter so she has more opportunities and a better life than my generation." This is a dream many of us also share for these girls.

Iqra Fund is thrilled to be sharing exciting, new updates directly from our students, staff, and team in Pakistan. Their stories can be found on our website blog and our social media outlets. Like us, Follow us, and Retweet us!

Meet Your Favorite Student, Belqis!
Belqis Bano, one of Iqra Fund's first students in 2011, is now at the top of her 3rd grade class.

We asked her father, Ali Khan, if he could interview his daughter to share with you. The proud father took a video of the interview with his daughter. The entire video is in English, and you get to watch as Ali Khan beams with pride and love for his daughter.

Meet the General Secretary of the Union Council of Basha
The General Secretary of the Union Council of Basha talks about the impact that Iqra Fund has made in Gilgit-Baltistan. The General Secretary is also a member of the Village Education Committee (VEC), which works closely with community members and leaders on projects for their local education programs.

The video is in the local language and has English subtitles.

Student Today, Nurse Tomorrow
I am Nelum Shaukat from a small village of Upper-Hunza called Ghulkin Gojal. But coming from a small village has never hindered my quest for knowledge. Moreover, the value of knowledge and the necessary search through education is something I have understood since a very young age. I wanted to be in a profession that helps and cares for people. This passion caused me to focus outside of myself and my own little world, and I ultimately wanted to become a Nurse to be helpful not only to me but to others as well. Read More
