Disciples Who Make Disciples
Roro meeting with a local leader near Gran Bois
In October, I was blessed to be a part of a short-term team that went to Haiti. During this week, I experienced God working in many ways. One of the most encouraging things I noticed was the intentional acts of discipleship-making that were taking place. I was encouraged and uplifted to see people investing in each other and encouraging each other.
On Monday evening, RoRo shared his testimony for our team. He shared that five years ago, when he first came to Peredo, he only knew one person. I was amazed because when we walked through town with him we could not pass three houses before being stopped by someone who wanted to talk with him. I began wondering how someone--in just five years--could become so influential. When asked how this could be, RoRo's answer was simple. He started to meet people and get to know them. Then, he invited people for dinner. His table was always open for a shared meal and conversation. That's when I realized the depth of the discipleship that is happening.
As the week progressed, I realized how many people were being discipled. RoRo met with the workers several times a day. He was always in contact with them. He met with the pastors and taught and shared with them. It was very encouraging to see a man living out the command of going and making disciples. The more I looked, the more I saw others doing the same thing.
I saw ToTo working and leading. LoLo was leading other women and teaching them. I saw others eager to learn and be a part of a community that is making disciples. The desire is so great that two 16-year-old boys help take care of the Peredo campus, without pay, just to be a part of this community.
God is doing great work in Haiti through the dedicated and gifted people that are involved in HCO. There are many different projects and areas in which they are working, but what remains, at the core of all they do, is making disciples who make disciples.
