HTAP Keeping Busy in October
Click the flyer for more information or
to register for the event.
We will be moving and shaking at HTAP throughout the month of October. Nola will be attending the Independent Sector Conference in Miami at the end of the month, and Karen and Erika will be attending the Human Trafficking Summit at the University of South Florida. The Summit is free and open to the public, but space is limited and registration is required.

The ARTREACH Curriculum that we've been working with the developer on all summer is in its final stage of review and will be available soon to organizations interested in starting their own ARTREACH programs! We have always had a template available with a detailed description of the current and past iterations of the ARTREACH program, but this completed curriculum will be more comprehensive, including much more detailed art instruction and tools, as well as include 5 brand new pop-up art projects that relate to human trafficking! Stay tuned for the unveiling of our new curriculum!
Taste of Freedom UPDATE!
The Taste of Freedom Fundraiser, originally scheduled  on Thursday, October 15th, has been postponed to Febuary or March 2016 and moved to Ft. Myers.
stponed. The tentative new date is
If you purchased a ticket, you will be personally contacted and given the option to hold over for the Spring event, refund, or donate the ticket cost. The organizers apologize for any inconvenience, but promise an even better event in the Spring.

A few days after we heard about the postponement, amazingly, HTAP was asked to be part of the premiere week of the film, "He Named me Malala" showing at the Silverspot Theatre on that same evening so we jumped at the chance. See the information below about this event.

"He Named Me Malala" Movie Screening
Join us for a premier week viewing at  7:30 pm of
  "He Named Me Malala"

We Need Social Media Ambassadors!!
In anticipation
of Giving Tuesday, which will be on December 1st, HTAP is seeking Social Media Ambassadors.

What does that mean exactly??
We're looking for people with social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.) to volunteer to post on our behalf leading up to and on Giving Tuesday.

Giving Tuesday evolved as a response to Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Thanksgiving is supposed to be about appreciating what we have and giving to others, but much of the holiday has now become about shopping and consuming. On the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, non-profit organizations all around the globe participate in #GivingTuesday. We encourage people to give back their time and their money to causes and organizations that they really support and believe in.

For more information on becoming a social media ambassador, please e-mail our Program Coordinator at [email protected]
Point of Contact, Point of Rescue
This week Nola presented to the Women in Business Group of the Greater Ft. Myers Chamber of Commerce. This is the same group that recently honored her as an APEX award nominee.

They were interested in how trafficking affects their businesses, such as retail, beauty spas, marketing, banking and finance as well as hospitals and the hospitality industry and how to develop a protocol to report cases.

After the presentation, many people approached Nola and told her they had never thought about trafficking actually happening in their businesses but could remember circumstances that were suspicious.

Later this month we will be training Lee Memorial's Behavioral Health Center staff, as well as presenting to more library staff.

Now is a good time to schedule a training before the season hits hospitality and other businesses. These trainings are available in English, French, Spanish or Creole. If you would like to request a training, please e-mail us at [email protected].

ARTREACH & TIPS
Artreach Logo

Take a look at all of the paintings from this summer's programs!

Note: this composite is missing one painting that is still being touched up.

We are still  working with the Fort Myers Police Department's Mentoring Program. The students are from 2 Foster Group Homes so we are aren't permitted to show their faces, but in the next newsletter, we will show you their paintings!

Next month we will also be conducting a 3-session TIPS program with a group of students from Caloosa Middle School.
Transparency & Responsibility
The GuideStar Exchange, the premier source of nonprofit information, has awarded HTAP their Gold Level of participation which is an important symbol of transparency and accountability. We are a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization and you can see our financial reports on http://www.guidestar.org.
 a note from Nola...

On October 1, 2015, HTAP started its 10th year as a 501c3 organization.
We've gone from a one employee, home-based business, focusing on forming coalitions and collaborative partnerships to having three employes, 9 interns in the last year, and many volunteers.

We've spoken at events in 22 states and 5 countries. It seems like every week, I hear about great work being done by a group I helped in the early days. Many of them continue to partner with HTAP. In the last month, we helped make a connection for a victim in one state to another state, shared information about ARTREACH program in another state. We've learned so much from the good work being done elsewhere and have incorporated what we've learned in our programs and vice versa.

It's good to remember all those who've helped us over the years and those we've been able to help - all with the intent to prevent trafficking, to keep our kids safe, to work with law enforcement and service providers to help victims.

Thank you for your good work!
