Dear Friends:
It's finally here! The PPMA Annual Conferece begins on Monday, November 10 at 8 a.m. (registration opens at 7 a.m.) at the Best Western Eden Resort in Lancaster (www.edenresort.com). Join us to hear presentations on publc health pest control strategies, and strategies for controlling flying insects, wildlife and rodents. Get updates on sanitation strategies for IPM. Running concurrent with the Monday schedule is a series of bedbug presentations you won't want to miss. Be sure to visit our 29 vendors and get the latest information (and handouts) and turn in your vendor card for the numerous prize drawings! Then relax and join us in the hospitality suite for Monday night football -- no need to BYOB (bring your own bug, er bottle). Tuesday's program(beginning at 8:15 a.m.) focuses on wood boring beetles, termite control, fungus identification and personal protection on the job. Testing and certification for bed bug dogs will also be available.
If you did not sign up yet to attend, it's not too late. Call the PPMA office at 1-800-842-9090 or register at the conference itself!
PA Farm Show
The Pennsylvania Farm Show (our 99th annual state fair) will kick off with a reception on January 9th. Click here for more information on events. The Farm Show reception is an excellent opportunity to visit with elected and appointed officials as well as industry compatriots.
PA Veterans Day
In honor of Veterans Day next week, Versant would like to send a reminder to our Pennsylvania veterans of the Persian Gulf Conflict of a state bonus available to them from the Department of Military and Veterans' Affairs. The time period for eligibility covers August 2, 1990 through August 31, 1991. For detailed instructions on how to apply for the Persian Gulf Conflict bonus, go to www.persiangulfbonus.state.pa.us or contact Joan Nissley at (717) 861-8720. Thank you to ALL veterans for your dedicated service!

Legislative Update
Earlier this week Democratic gubernatorial candidate Tom Wolf became Governor Elect Tom Wolf with a solid ten percent margin of victory over current Governor Tom Corbett. Wolf, a business man from York County served as PA Secretary of Revenue under then Governor Ed Rendell. Further, Wolff volunteered for the Peace Corps as a 19 year old. He was stationed in India where he acted as an agronomy agent. Upon returning to the states, Wolf completed his education and eventually earned a PhD from MIT. Election night speeches can be found here.
The State Senate Republicans won a commanding majority last night by picking up three seats to increase their majority of 30 Republicans to 20 Democrats. Incumbent Tim Solobay (D) lost to Camera Bartolotta (R) while Mario Scavello (R) and Pat Stefano (R) both won open seats.
The State House Republicans saw similar victories winning a 119 to 84 victory. Democratic incumbents Jesse White, Rick Mirabito and Mark Painter all fell to Republican challengers.
All eyes are now on November 12th when leadership elections will occur in both chambers. We will send an update as soon as the results are known. The 2013/14 legislative session officially ends on November 30. Legislators (Senators & House members) will return to Harrisburg on Tuesday, January 6 to be sworn into office for the 2015/16 legislative session. Governor-elect Tom Wolf and Lieutenant Governor Elect Mike Stack will be sworn in later in the month.
On behalf of myself and the entire Versant Team, we all look forward to working with the new Administration and our friends in the Legislature on behalf of our clients' issues.
