Greetings!

Happy New Year!
January is packed with things to do at Integrative Mindfulness! Chart your course by clicking the Quick Links to the left, and mark your calendar.

Danli still has spaces available in her Wednesday evening Tai Chi Class. If Wednesday fills up, and you want to learn Tai Chi, we may be able to entice her to open another class! Stay tuned.

We're planning an Open House and Film Screening on Friday, January 24th. Come meet our new team of practitioners and see the new studio between 5-7. Then we'll present the documentary film Free the Mind, on the groundbreaking research by neuroscientist Dr. Richard Davidson on meditation and the brain. It's free, but we'd like you to pre-register so we can plan refreshments and seating.

Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn was featured on the cover of the current issue of Mindful magazine, with a great interview on the bright future of mindfulness in the world. Read excerpts here.
May you be safe, well, and happy.

Sincerely,
Madeline Ebelini

Zen for Ten
Acceptance
Zen for Ten (Acceptance)
Zen for Ten
(Acceptance)
Acceptance is synonymous with mindfulness - present moment awareness. It doesn't mean we necessarily "like" what's happening in the present moment, or that we're "OK" with it, but it does mean that we're in tune with reality: "This is how it is now." Resisting reality is a futile exercise in being stuck (and unhappy). Acceptance is a prerequisite to change. It's an ironic truth that the only way to influence the future is to be present now.
Yoga Posture
Utkatasana - Chair Pose

Sitting in a chair may sound very easy and comfortable. But sitting in an imaginary chair might be a little challenging. The literal meaning of Utkatasana is intense posture or powerful posture. And this is exactly what we do in Utkatasana (Utkat=Intense, Powerful; Asana= Posture/Pose; pronounced as U-t-kat- asana). You need just a little bit of determination to stay longer in Chair Posture. But when you do, you exercise the muscles of the spine, hips and chest, while strengthening the lower back and torso. Utkatasana tones the thigh, ankle, leg and knee muscles, balances the body, and strengthens determination in the mind.
