Yoga Posture
Janu Sirsasana
(Head to Knee Pose)

My favorite posture for low back & hip pain. Place the sole of one foot on the inner thigh of the opposite leg. Inhale a deep breath then exhale as you fold forward over your extended leg. Keep the spine lengthened extending through the crown of the head. Stay for 5-8 breaths. You'll feel your back releasing and the tension melting from your shoulders and neck. You'll also get a deep stretch in the hamstring of the extended leg and the hip of the folded leg.

Happy Thanksgiving and enjoy your extra hour of sleep this weekend!

Thank you to all who participated in our Yoga Survey. It's still open if you'd like to give your input. Several day/time slots have emerged as most popular, and we're working to give you what you want (and when) as soon as possible. Read about the new Sunday morning Beginning Yoga Class with Karen LePree coming up!

This time of year begins to get busy - more traffic, school, holiday preparations. In the midst of all this, I hope you find time to slow down, go inward, and find peace and stillness. Your practice will help you with that. As we begin to wind down this year, recommit to yourself and your well-being - for the long term. Why not give yourself the gift of mindfulness through an upcoming program? See what's happening, and what's coming up, at Integrative Mindfulness . . .

Beginner Yoga Series at Integrative Mindfulness
Karen LePree, RYT

Karen hales from New York state, but is now a full-time Floridian. She's had a lifelong interest in yoga, but began a formal practice after the birth of her son in 1999. She credits her first teacher, Ashley Ludman at Seaside Yoga in Wilmington NC, with teaching her much of what she knows and for fueling her enthusiasm for yoga.

For the last dozen years Karen has been an avid yoga student, studying asana (postures) meditation, anatomy, physiology, yoga philosophy, ethics, and lifestyle. Karen has studied and practiced a variety of different types of yoga including Ashtanga, Hatha, Vinyasa, Gentle, Yin, and Kriya under teachers such as Baron Baptiste, Aileen Dailey, and Eric Cooper. "Yoga brings peace, strength, tranquility, and a closeness to my Higher Power and to life," she says. Karen completed her 200 hour yoga teacher training and is now a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) through the Yoga Alliance. "Teaching yoga is my passion," she says and she loves sharing it with her students. Karen will begin teaching a Beginner Yoga Series in January, with an Introductory "Preview" Class being offered in November and December. Get more information here.
