Yoga Posture
Downward Facing Dog

Adho Mukha Svanasana
"Downward Facing Dog" is a posture worth practicing and getting to know. It's primary function is lengthening the spine. It also stretches the backs of the legs and strengthens the shoulders.

Greetings!

Integrative Mindfulness is two years old this month! More than 100 people have graduated from the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program or are currently enrolled. Establishing this program, which was fairly unfamiliar in Southwest Florida, has been a challenge and a joy. Word of mouth has now become one of the best sources of "advertising" for this mindfulness training - Thank you!

This month I've been listening to recordings and webinars by some of the best mindfulness teachers in the country: Joseph Goldstein, co-founder of the Insight Meditation Society (IMS) where I attend annual retreats, and Jack Kornfield, psychologist, author, and co-founder of IMS and Spirit Rock Meditation Center. I also just finished an excellent book by Susan Smalley, PhD and Diana Winston, Fully Present: The Science, Art, and Practice of Mindfulness. There is no end to this learning and practice of mindfulness!

Seventeen wonderful individuals are currently enrolled in the Spring cycle of MBSR, which will conclude in early May. Graduates' classes continue on Fridays at 3:30 pm, and free guided practices are held on Tuesdays at 10:30 at The Brooks Commons Club outdoor pavilion. All are welcome!
Why We Find It Hard to Meditate
Common Obstacles and How to Overcome Them

What is it about something as simple as sitting still and watching our breath that evokes panic, fear, and even hostility? No matter how many reports there are proving the mental, emotional, and physical value of being quiet, there seems to be an even greater number who refuse to give it a try. Read more . . .

Can't Sit Still?
Try Walking Meditation

Whenever you try a seated meditation, you feel restless and jittery.  It's almost like ants are crawling all over your skin--on the inside!  Almost involuntarily, you find yourself squirming, wriggling, and ultimately ending your meditation session abruptly.  Sound familiar? Read more . . .

Enjoy this beautiful month!

Sincerely,
