How to Fortify Business Partnerships
Planning can never be overlooked when going into business with partners. The many life changes that can occur like, marriage, moving, death, divorce, or even just a bout of spontaneity, might take down your business if not prepared. By simply drafting a Buy / Sell Agreement, you can be assured that the structure of your company can remain intact if anything should happen to an owner.
A Buy / Sell Agreement does more than its name - it secures the details of what all owners can expect in circumstances that are unforeseen. For example, instead of chancing a massive sell-off to someone unqualified, drafting a document that pegs a price can assure a reasonable selling price should an owner decide to part ways. Also covered in the plan might be how to pay a departing owner; being caught without enough to cover this cost could lead finances into the red.
There are dozens of other factors to consider and plan for in your Agreement.

Mother Loses Custody of Obese Son
Given the increasing rates of childhood obesity, a new and arguably extreme measure is becoming common. Authorities are holding parents accountable for the obesity of their own children.
A Cleveland mother lost her child to authorities just because of his weight - the 8 year old, weighing 200 pounds - was taken from her in October. Taken as a sign of inability to care for the child, her son's weight is triple that of what is normal for his age. Sparking some controversy, this is one a few publicized cases emerging across the country. Whether or not taking the child out of the home is the best answer remains to be seen. The Cleveland boy has since been in the custody of his Uncle. For legal advice regarding custody or similar issues please contact us at (215) 942-2100. |
Facebook and Divorce
The evasiveness of social media has finally worked its way into some startling divorce statistics. What's the bad news? Nearly a third of divorces that cite unreasonable behavior allude to Facebook as the cause. The desire to share publicly with new friends can invite unwelcomed characters into a relationship. It doesn't take much effort to investigate photos, posts and check-ins for signs of infidelity and whatever is found can be used during court proceedings for the subsequent divorce.
Cases that involve Facebook as a source of unreasonable behavior are up by 50% over the last two years. Certainly more cases are likely to evolve as more and more people become familiar with Facebook across various age groups.

Obama Immigration Law
In a swift move without involving Congress, immigration laws have been slightly changed. The new law permits illegal aliens staying with family in the US to wait out their Application for Waiver of Grounds of Inadmissibility to process here instead of demanding they return to their country. As expected, this sparks some intense controversy over the already heated debate on border security. It also raises eyebrows in terms of political motives in the early phases of campaign preparation.

How to Turn Motivation Into Action
'Tis the season for New Year's Resolutions and for many, this is a time to set expectations and get back on that low-carb diet. Yet ultimately, come February, most of us are let down by a lack of commitment and an extra 15 pounds instead.
Perhaps the source of this problem isn't that there is a lack of motivation, but lack of follow-through. There is a lot of self-talk that tends to work against us. Listening to that self-talk will actually get in the way of what you know you really want. For example, in the morning, you resolve to go to the gym after work. Shortly before leaving that day, you think, "I'm feeling tired, I'll just head home and take it easy tonight." Instead of leaving your mind blank on the subject and allowing your body to carry you to the gym, you've interfered with your own success by thinking too much.
It is this self-talk that interrupts the flow from motivation to completion. A few tips to defeat yourself and get what you want include:
- making a schedule for the gym on a calendar, in writing
- involving a friend; it is more difficult to disappoint another person than yourself
- shaping your environment to support what you want by surrounding yourself with items you need or eliminating those that get in the way
