GREETINGS FROM

DR. KIMBERLY J. SCHNEIDER, SUPERINTENDENT

Schneider Headshot

With summer just around the corner, I want to take a moment to acknowledge all of our students who are completing programs this year.

Last month, we honored more than 70 adults who completed programs in our Adult Evening School.  This month, we will distribute completion certificates to more than 230 high school students who have successfully completed shared-time career and technical education programs.

On June 30, 2014, we will make history as we host the inaugural commencement exercises for Mercer County Technical Schools' Health Science Academy Class of 2014.  The Academy was years in the making and now we can celebrate this amazing accomplishment as we watch 19 students receive their diplomas.

In July, an additional 35 postsecondary students will graduate from the Health Careers Center.

I personally want to thank each and every student for their commitment to career and technical education. I wish you all the best of luck as you enter college or your career of choice. We are so proud!

On May 30, 2014, the Culinary Arts and Criminalistics classes hosted a new event called A Dinner to Die For.  The murder mystery dinner event was carefully planned by students and faculty from both programs.  Students worked diligently to sell tickets to classmates, friends, family and the general public. A unique menu was designed by the students which included a Death by Chocolate dessert (pictured above).

HSA Senior Selected for Spirit of a Hero Scholarship

In this photo: Jacklyn Rapport with First Lady Mary Pat Christie
Congratulations to Jacklyn Rapport, Health Science Academy senior, for being selected by First Lady Mary Pat Christie as a 2014 Spirit of a Hero Scholarship recipient. Jacklyn was among 22 high school students selected for this great honor.

Jacklyn has a passion for science. Upon learning that the United States lags behind other nations in science scores, she was empowered to translate that passion into a vehicle to engage with other students. For her Girl Scout Gold Project, Jacklyn organized a countywide science fair. This project brought together students from her local community and helped them to think critically, find a sense of self-empowerment and consider careers in the field of science. Jacklyn will be attending Drew University in the fall where she will be studying Biology, on a pre-med track. Read more.
