President's Report - Building on Success

During this Holiday Season it is a time for thankfulness, joy and a time for reflection and anticipation.

The Greater Fargo Moorhead community has a lot to be thankful for during these incredible economic times. Strong employment, economic diversity and a powerful workforce are just a few. We are blessed with an excellent education system, wonderful and diverse arts and entertainment community and a cornucopia of culinary options.

The number one thing I am thankful for, as a new member of the community, is the people - their spirit, optimism and work ethic!

Reflecting back on 2012, it was a year of transition from a personal and organizational standpoint. Relocating to Fargo from Ann Arbor, MI and the reorganization of the EDC staff and its focus have presented challenges and new opportunities. The good news is the results of new staff, redefined responsibilities and new directions are paying incredible dividends. The EDC is blessed with an incredible staff, who are committed to the community and dedicated in our mission

The most exciting thing is the anticipation on what 2013 will bring!

  • Stronger partnerships with our primary-sector businesses and the creation of sector groups to better address their needs in the community
  • Creating stronger collaborations with all of our community partners in both Cass and Clay Counties.
  • Creating new collaborations and implementing new programs with all of our higher education partners.
  • The continuation of teacher internships and the creation of new programming with our K-12 education partners.
  • The establishment of a stronger entrepreneurial environment in the region through partnerships and new programming.
  • A stronger, more focused workforce development strategy to ensure our incredible companies can continue to achieve and grow.

In conclusion, I want to thank the GFMEDC board, its investors and the community as a whole for allowing me the opportunity to be a part of this great organization and community!

Warm Regards for a Wonderful Holiday Season and an Exciting New Year!

Intelligent InSites hosts company representatives from across the globe at a successful InSites Build.

The GFMEDC recently participated in InSites Build 2012 -a healthcare technology event, organized by Intelligent InSites. Intelligent InSites is a Fargo-based healthcare software company, backed by funding from Arthur Ventures and the leadership of Doug Burgum, who serves as the Executive Chairman of the Board for Intelligent InSites.

More than 100 conference attendees, who came to Fargo from across the United States, as well as Australia, Israel, and Norway, had a unique opportunity to learn about innovative healthcare solutions, evaluate the top industry players, and test-drive the latest technologies-all in one place.

Throughout the event, participants were challenged to develop innovative ways to eliminate inefficiencies in healthcare, remove unnecessary burdens on patients and staff, and improve healthcare outcomes.

With the event hosted at Intelligent InSites' downtown office, the Bluestem Center for the Arts, and the Plains Art Museum, Intelligent InSites provided a great experience for attendees, breaking the stereotypes, and showing that the Fargo-Moorhead area is a great place to live, work, and have fun!

The mission of the GFMEDC is to grow and diversify the economy in Cass County, ND and Clay County, Minn. through the attraction, retention and expansion of primary-sector employers.

A primary-sector company is one that brings new wealth into the community through the sale of its goods and services outside the trade area.  This new wealth circulates and supports all other sectors of the local economy, thus making the primary sector the principle driver of economic growth.

Thank you for your continued support of the Greater Fargo Moorhead EDC and economic development.  We look forward to your feedback.
