Divers Discover Roman Shipwreck Off Israel's Coast

Two friends, Ran Feinstein and Ofer Ra'anan, took a dive trip off the coast of Israel near Caesarea and discovered a 1600-year-old Roman merchant shipwreck. According to Israel Antiquities Authority, archaeologists discovered the largest cache of Roman artifacts to be found in Israel for more than 30 years. Clusters of coins in ceramic jars retrieved from the wreck weighed in at around 44 lbs. Some of the coins bearing Constantine the Great's image assisted archaeologists in determining the ship sink around the early 4th Century AD. Read the IAA press release.

Temple Mount Sifting Project

The Temple Mount Sifting Project was established in 2004 by Israeli archaeologists under the sponsorship of Bar-Ilan University. The project, located on the western slopes of Mt. Scopus at Emek Tzurim National Park, is funded by the Ir-David Foundation in cooperation with the Israel National Parks Authority. The purpose of the salvage operation is to sift through tons of debris removed from the Temple Mount and dumped in the Kidron Valley by the northern branch of the Islamist movement in the years 1999-2000.
