Dear Friend,
On the heels of the Jewish Passover celebration this year are Israel's Memorial Day and Independence Day observances on April 14th and 15th, respectively. On the evening of April 14th Israeli businesses will close at 8:00 PM and a 1-minute siren will blare to mark the beginning of Memorial Day. The next day ceremonies around the country will mark this solemn occasion and at 11:00 AM local time another siren - this time for two minutes - will sound off. When the sirens blast everyone stops wherever they are, whatever they're doing - conversations stop, traffic comes to a complete halt as drivers pull over, get out of their cars and stand in silence - to honor and respect those who gave their lives for freedom.
With the culmination of Memorial Day begins joyous celebrations; every city, town, village, settlement, kibbutz has their own special way of observing Israel's Independence. As families enjoy barbecues in the parks, the Israeli Air Force cruises the skies of Jerusalem and other parts of the nation in ceremonial formation. Street fairs, music and great food abound. This year marks Israel's 65th year as a sovereign state - HAPPY BIRTHDAY ISRAEL!

Free Smartphone App Available for Touring the Old City
The Jerusalem Development Authority has launched a smartphone application for touring the Old City Jerusalem giving the user a full range of tours, including the Via Delorosa, the Jewish Quarter, the Herodian Quarter, Jerusalem in the First and Second Temple periods, and the Temple Mount compound.
Tourists and visitors to the Old City of Jerusalem can
download the app for free to access 15 self-guided audio walking tours in English, Russian or Hebrew, complete with maps, photos and written explanations, to enrich their visiting experience. Click here for a complete list of tours and app information.

Accessible Israel Brochure Online 
Disabled travelers to Israel can now learn about accessible sites with a new Accessible Israel online brochure. The brochure features accessible tour routes in Israel, including the Sea of Galilee, Tel Aviv, the Old City of Jerusalem, the Dead Sea and Negev Desert.
