Dear Friend,

The time is rapidly approaching when we will celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Rosh Hashanah is the first of the High Holidays, or Asseret Yemei Teshuva (Ten Days of Repentance) which are days specifically set aside to focus on repentance that conclude with the holiday of Yom Kippur.

This is a very special occasion, during which we dedicate time to our loved ones, families and friends. This is the perfect time for all of us to wish the children of Israel, Shana Tova - a sweet year.

We pray this New Year brings peace and prosperity to Israel and America, and that you are blessed with health, love and much success as well.

Shalom & Irit AlmogGod bless,

Jerusalem Reservoir
1st Temple Period Reservoir Uncovered In Jerusalem

In Jerusalem a large water reservoir has been uncovered from the First Temple period during archaeological excavations directed by the Israel Antiquity Authority.

The reservoir, located near Robinson's Arch, was discovered during ongoing efforts to map out Jerusalem's entire ancient drainage system. It is the largest water reservoir found so far from the First Temple era with an estimated capacity of 250 cubic meters and resembles other ancient water systems found at Beersheva, Arad and Bet Shemesh.

Authorities believe the large reservoir was used for the everyday activities of the Temple Mount itself and also by the pilgrims who went up to the Temple and required water for bathing and drinking.

Discoveries from the past year, including this one, will be presented at the 13th Annual Conference on the "City of David Studies of Ancient Jerusalem."

The Bible Comes to Life Video Series

The Israel Ministry of Tourism is in the final stages of producing a 12-part video series titled, "The Bible Comes to Life." Hosted by IMOT's Midwest Director, Omer Eshel, the series features breathtaking HD footage that captures the beauty of Israel and spotlights the stories of the Bible linked to the Promised Land.

The series is being distributed as a resource to pastors, educators, and ministry leaders to help illuminate biblical scripture by providing the context where actual events occurred.  IMOT has posted the first six episodes on You Tube and Coral has them available for your viewing on our website as well.

Shofar with apples
Rosh Hashanah Begins Sept 16

The festival of Rosh Hashanah, which literally means "Head of the year", is celebrated on the first and second days of Tishri - the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar. It is commonly known as the Jewish New Year. The bible refers to it as Yom-Teruah - the day of the sounding of the shofar - which is the central observance of the holiday. It was instituted in Leviticus 23:24 - God said to Moses, "Say to the Israelites: 'On the first day of the seventh month you are to have a day of sabbath rest, a sacred assembly commemorated with trumpet blasts.'

Additional observances include eating apples dipped in honey to symbolize a desire for a sweet New Year and blessing one another with the words, "Leshanah tovah tikateiv veteichateim," may you be inscribed and sealed for a good year.

Rosh Hashanah begins at sunset on September 16th and ends at nightfall on September 18th. Shanah Tovah!
