Dear Friends,
In Israel, the month of February begins our transition from winter into spring. The rains have washed the countryside and we are left with a beautiful palette of hues from the blossoming flowers to the colorful fruits. And with the Tu B'Shevat Jewish holiday approaching it is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the beauty and bounty our Creator has gifted us with. We hope, wherever you are, you feel inspired to share with others the loving kindness you have received.
We hope as you make your plans for this year you will consider what a trip to the Holy Land would mean to you and your church or ministry. If you have a desire to come to Israel, let us help make your dream a reality. It is our pleasure to work with you to create a most memorable journey into your Christian heritage where you will see the bible come to life.
We look forward to welcoming you to the land of Israel.
 God bless,
Shalom & Irit Almog

Jewish Holiday - Tu B'Shevat
Tu B'Shevat (15th day of the Hebrew month of Shevat) is celebrated this year on Wednesday, February 8, 2012. It marks the beginning of a "New Year for Trees."
Commencing around the Festival of Sukkot, the rainy season in Israel nourishes the trees and after about 4 months they produce fruit. The date of Tu B'Shevat is when most of the rains have passed. This was important in Temple times during which tithes of fruits were given as they varied from year to year depending on the crop.
Tu B'Shevat is observed by eating fruit such as are noted in the Torah in its praise of the bounty of the Holy Land: figs, pomegranates, dates, olives, grapes. It is a common custom for many to eat carob.
The blessing on fruit: Baruch Atah A-donay, Elo-heinu Melech ha'Olam borei pri ha-etz.
[Blessed are You, L-rd our G-d, King of the universe, who creates the fruit of the tree.]

Ancient Bathhouse Discovered Near Jerusalem
Remains of a 1,600-year-old Byzantine bathhouse were exposed recently during an excavation project by the Israel Antiquities Authority near Moshav Tarum, outside of Jerusalem.
The 65-by-65-foot bathhouse includes the frigidarium (cold room), tepidarium (warm room) andcaldarium (hot room), as well as a courtyard attached to its northeast section. The bathhouse is believed to have been used as an inn situated on an ancient road running along Nahal Harel through the southeastern Ayalon Valley, or as part of a wealthy country estate.
"Bathing in bathhouses during the Byzantine period is a continuation of the Roman tradition," said Dr. Rina Avner, Excavation Director, Israel Antiquities Authority. Similar bathhouses were found in the past at Latrun and Caesarea.
