Thoughts  from our Pastor - Rev. Tim Soule

Thank you for help in making the flowered cross look extremely beautiful. The flowers that came from your yards, bushes, and flowerbeds made it a one of a kind tribute to the Lord and added to a grand celebration of the resurrection. Alleluia! Christ is risen!   Thanks too for your gifts to One Great Hour of Sharing. We collected over $1,000. Giving to NUMANA so far is almost $300 and there still is time to contribute if you have not yet done so. Bring your gift to the church or drop it off at the Amory Saturday morning. And while you have been supporting these special offerings you continue to be generous with gifts to Hope House. Thanks for all you do to live and share as Christ's disciples.

Here is a very important announcement concerning this summer's worship time. Beginning Memorial Day weekend and running through Labor Day, September 2, worship will begin at 9:00 am in the sanctuary. The session made this decision as one way to try and reduce our high electrical demand charge. We hope that by cooling the sanctuary on Saturday evening we can use only one air conditioning unit and therefore not call for so much power at one time as we do when both units are working to cool the space. Worshipping earlier means we will cool the room when it is not as hot outside. We will be keeping the room a little warmer than we have in the past so come dressed for summer. I do not plan to wear a robe during June, July or August and most likely will be in a short sleeved shirt. We will keep the room around 75 degrees.

Other ways we hope to reduce this number is by not using the sanctuary during VBS. We will keep the rest of the church cool and have a plan to use Roberts Hall for several activities each night.  A plan for upgrading the lighting throughout the church is another possibility we are studying. The Finance and Building Committees have been working to address our high Electrical Demand Charge and these are our latest attempts. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter as we want to use every dollar you entrust to the church wisely. Above all we want you to be in worship and at VBS this summer. We will not keep the building so warm you will roast, but neither will you need a sweater to keep warm.

Men, next Friday April 20, and Saturday April 21, we will be having a Men's Retreat at the Williamsburg Wildlife Center. We will gather for supper Friday evening and conclude our activities after supper on Saturday evening. This event is the idea of the Wednesday Evening Men's Bible Study and they want to invite any man who is interested to come and join the fellowship, study and fun. Fishing and target shooting are just two of the activities available at the center. We will see and discuss the movie Courageous.   A prayer hike and other reflective opportunities will be offered. Accommodations are very rustic. Tents and small camping trailers can be used. There are no hook-ups. We will share the costs of the food and will cook on camp stoves and a fire. Are you up for a little adventure and a lot of fun? Why not join us for the day.   If you have questions call Kenny Nelson (he's the crazy one pushing this idea) or me ( I think it's a great idea)! Participants will need a fishing license if they plan to fish. There will be a cost for using the shoot range.

                                                            VALUED VOLUNTEERS

Words cannot express my gratitude for all the time Sherril Unruh worked in the church office and all the work she did while I was on vacation.  She answered the telephone, took care of the office business, sent information for the bulletin to Linda Tucker, typed the lily insert, and many, many other tasks too numerous to mention during the very busy Easter season.  Thank you so much for all you did, Sherril--you are the greatest and we are so lucky to have you to call on when we need help!!                                                   Deanna Fox, office secretary

SUB SANDWICH SALE!

I want to inform you all of the sandwich sale the youth group is doing for a fundraiser. As you know, the mission trip is getting closer, and we have to raise a lot of money.  We have several youth going, and we are trying to keep the out of pocket costs to a minimum. So this is our next fundraiser, and we will be making sub sandwiches that we will have ready for you to pick up April 22, or we will also be glad to deliver them to you. You will find an order form at the end of the newsletter giving you all the options and you simply have to fill it out and return it to us, and we will prepare it for you. We greatly appreciate all the help and support you have already given, and without your help, this trip would not be possible. The sandwiches are only  7 dollars, and any extra donation is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for all you do. God Bless!

Great New Faith Based Movies in Church Library
Jan Brigham
has purchased numerous DVD's that are stimulating, entertaining, and appropriate for family viewing.  Here a just a few - more will be highlighted in the next Messenger.
Please follow the check out and return procedures when borrowing movies from the library so all can enjoy these wonderful thought provoking stories.

Soul Surfer: "Incredible True Story" of Bethany Hamilton, a teen surfer who lost her arm in a shark attack. She courageously overcame all odds to become a champion surfer and Christian teen spokesperson through her sheer determination and unwavering faith. This film features scenes of worship, mission trips, prayer and actions of faith. Rated PG Suitable for children-probably 7 and up-but parents should view first if children are young due to the accident sequence-although not graphic.

Grace Card: A highly emotional story of faith and forgiveness. After police officer Mac McDonald loses his son in an accident, years of bitterness and pain erode his love for his family and leave him angry with God...and everyone else. Everyday we have the opportunity to rebuild relationships and heal wounds by extending and receiving God's grace. Note the "Grace Card" covenant in the movie. Rated PG-13 for Violence and Thematic Elements (pre-teen to adult theme) This film was accomplished by 15,000 volunteer hours from members of CalvaryChurch of the Nazarene, Memphis, the community of Memphis and members of other churches. Watch the special features on making of the film.

                                                   PRESCHOOL BOARD VACANCY

Westminster Cooperative Preschool is an important ministry and outreach of our church. When established in 1983, the by-laws stipulated that it be overseen by a 5-member Board. The Board is made up of one member of the congregation, one Elder from the Session, one member of the Christian Education Committee, one parent from the Monday-Wednesday-Friday class and one parent from the Tuesday-Thursday class.

As the end of the school year nears, Wanda Ballinger is finishing her term as the congregation member. We so appreciate her years of service and are so thankful for her faithfulness in serving and her dedication to and caring for the children of Westminster Preschool!

The Preschool Board meetings last about an hour, approximately once a month, September - May. If you are interested in serving on the Preschool Board as a representative of the congregation, please contact Susan Sachse, Preschool Director. It is preferable that the congregation Board member not have children enrolled in the Preschool and will be appointed to the position by the Session.

PRESCHOOL ENROLLMENT

Westminster Preschool has openings in the 4 year old class for the 2012-2013 school year. To enroll, the children should be 4 years old by August 31st. Please contact Susan Sachse, Preschool Director for more information. The class for 3 year olds has full enrollment.

congratsCongratulations, Thank You's & Praise

We want to follow up with our recent events and let you know all about them.
THANK YOU'S....

Thanks, Sherril!!  What fun it was for the children to find a new toy in their Busy Bag recently. Thanks so much to Sherril Unruh who purchased and donated 30 squishy Easter animals which light up when squeezed! The quiet toys are a great addition to the Busy Bags. Thanks, Sherril for your thoughtfulness!

From Louise Harrell:

A big thank you to my church family for all the cards, phone calls, flowers, food and visits.  A special thank you to Pastor Tim and Pastor Henry.  A big thank you to the WPW and the youth who delivered the fruit and cookies.  I'm walking slow.  I hope to see all of you in church soon.  Blessings.

Mayor's Prayer Breakfast Thank You....
I want to thank all those at Westminster for their help at the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast on March 27th.  Special thanks to Pastor Tim and the Men's Chorus.  They were a big hit and I heard nothing but praise for the church and the event.
Special thanks to Cherry Coen and her students for catering the meal, Boy Scout Troop 74, and the Westminster Staff who helped to make it a success.
There was a great turnout of church members, also, to make it a full house in Roberts Hall.
                                   Gene Ramsey, Mayor of Ottawa

From Kenny Nelson...
Thank you for the prayers and support the week I was going to truck driving school.

From Barb Nelson...
Thank you for supporting me on my recent resignation from the City and for attending my reception!  I am so blessed to belong to this family!  You have prayed, cried, and laughed with me throughout the years and I appreciate each and every one of you!  Thanks again for your continued prayer and all of your kindness!
                Love, Barb

Church Courtyard Is Beautiful!

Thanks to Ed Taylor for trimming all the shrubs in the courtyard, to Jim Pritchard for raking the leaves and mowing the grass in the courtyard and to Connie Gaeddert for taking care of the flower garden and plants in the courtyard. It really looks beautiful this spring. Take a look and admire - the flowering trees are absolutely beautiful!

From Life Care Center for Women...
To the evening Bible Study Ladies...Thank you for donating to us all the diapers, bottles, wipes, towels, storage bags and new little clothes and baby items.  These are just the sort of things our clients need.  Desire to earn them motivates clients to take educational classes so they can shop in our little Earn While You Learn Store.
We are impressed by the generosity of your little group!  Wow!
It means so much to us to know people from all over the community are standing with us in our work here at LifeCare Center.  It is our privilege to encourage life in every way as we work with families in our area helping them prepare for parenthood through education and material help.  We appreciate your support because without it this ministry would not be possible!
May God bless you for thinking of us.
