                               Inquirers Class to Be Held

Are you interested in learning more about Westminster Presbyterian Church, its history, mission, beliefs, its worship, sacraments and ministry, its governance and structure? Ever wonder what is a Presbyterian or how you can become a member of this church? Then join our pastor, Tim Soule, as he leads a 3-week Inquirers Class. He will attempt to answer these questions and any others you bring. Everyone is welcome-those who are not members, those who joined in the last few years, and those who have been members for a long time. The class will be held on Sundays, January 8th, 15th and 22nd at 9:15 a.m. in our Christian Education Office--adjacent to the church office.  At the conclusion of the class, there will be an opportunity to join our congregation. A nursery will be provided.

This will be a wonderful opportunity to get to know some of the members of Westminster Church and others who have been attending church but are not members.  If you have any questions about this class, please call the church office, 242-1824.
Sunday School Classes Resume

Please remember that Sunday School classes for children, youth and adults will resume this coming Sunday, January 8th, 9:15 - 10:15 a.m. Children ages 2 - 2nd grade meet in classroom 2 for music from 9:15 - 9:30 and then are dismissed by age groups to their classrooms.  All other ages meet in their classrooms at 9:15.

Spring Semester ADULT Sunday School Classes

Please note a NEW ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL class will begin on January 8th. John Coen will lead adults in a study by Rev. Adam Hamilton of the Church of the Resurrection entitled "When Christians Get It Wrong." Each lesson will begin with a 15 minute DVD presentation, followed by discussion from the book. (Books will be available on Sunday.)

This class will meet in the Parlor and replaces the class which met there last semester. Many thanks to Dr. Jack Bushman who led the fall semester class on "The Jesus I Never Knew."

Other classes available on Sunday mornings for adults are:

  • Inquirer's Class:  see above article for information
  • Fireside Room: Knowing Jesus Christ (study scriptures that describe the personhood and character of Jesus) - teacher, Bill Ballinger
  • Disciples' Room: The Wired Word (an on-line curriculum relating current events to relevant scripture passages) - teachers, Henry Roberts and Shirlene Taylor
  • Basement youth room: Love Wins by Pastor Rob Bell - teacher, Bill Allegre

 Children's Church Resumes

Children's Church for 2 age groups will resume on Sunday, January 8th. Meeting in Room 3 are potty-trained preschoolers who were 3 years old by August 31, 2011. Kindergarten children through 2nd graders meet in Room 4.

Teaching schedules were mailed this week to parents. Please let Susan know if you have changed dates with another family.

 Preschool Classes Resume

Also starting back up this week were our 2 preschool classes. It is always so great to once again hear those sweet little voices in our hallways!

The teachers, Angie Sylvester and Allison Thompson, returned to their classrooms to find an abundance of new sweat pants, sweatshirts and mittens donated by Presbyterian Women. Thank you to their avid shopper, Jan Brigham, who loves a bargain, for finding great deals on the clothing to replenish the preschool supply (extra clothes are kept on hand for spills and accidents). The preschool is very appreciative of Jan's time and the generosity of Presbyterian Women!

Women's Bible Studies Resume

On Monday, January 9th, also resuming will be our 2 women's Bible study groups taught by Kathy Reynolds. The morning class meets in the Disciples' Room at 9:00 a.m. and the evening group meets in Kathy's home at 5:30 p.m.

Our two men's Bible study groups on Wednesdays did not take a break for the holidays so continue to meet at 7:30 a.m. at Keim's Bakery or 7:00 p.m. in the Parlor.

Christian Education Committee

Westminster is so fortunate to have a very active Christian Education Committee to plan the various classes, programs and activities for Christian nurture of our congregation's children, youth and adults.

The Committee meets 5 times a year; the 1st meeting of 2012 will be this coming Monday, January 9th, 7:30 p.m. in the Parlor. Child care is provided.

Sunday School classes, Bible studies, Vacation Bible School, Stars of Light, teacher appreciation, graduate recognition, Trunk-or-Treat, the children's Christmas program and our newest program, LOGOS, are just a few of the programs the committee is responsible for.

If you would like to join others from Westminster in planning this kind of programming, please come to the meeting on Monday. Your input will be greatly appreciated! And as a bonus, the fellowship is great and we have a really good time!
