The National Center for Transit Research and the Transportation Research Board (TRB) are joining URISA to sponsor the 9th National GIS in Transit Conference, September 1-3, 2015, in Washington, DC.
This conference will bring experts to discuss how GIS is being used everyday to improve transit systems. Share your research, projects and ideas with this informed audience.

The National Historical Geographic Information System (NHGIS) has requested that supporters and users of the U.S. Census' ACS 3-year data products send letters advocating against defunding and discontinuing the creation of this data. Before URISA adds its endorsement of this campaign, we want to hear from our members in the United States.
The NHGIS noted: "The 3-year data provide a unique combination of spatial, temporal, and statistical precision, enabling a range of high-value analyses that the other ACS products cannot support. With a sample three times larger than 1-year ACS data, 3-year estimates have considerably smaller margins of error and are made available for nearly twice as many areas. Compared to 5-year data, 3-year data provide a degree of specificity that is crucial for some time series comparisons."

"I really wish this had existed when I first moved up into management."
"Most of us spend a good bit of time and effort to hone and update our technical skills as we progress in our GIS careers. We take classes on how to build GIS databases, geocode addresses, maintain parcels or create python scripts. We work in a technology driven field so it makes sense we place our focus on these types of skills. That is until you find yourself managing a project, team or department. Suddenly you have to develop budgets, calculate ROI, handle HR issues and so on.
The ULA is a great program for overcoming that gap many of us have in our education; and unlike other management training programs, it was built by GIS Professionals who know our industry and the issues we face.
I hope everyone will take advantage of this great opportunity URISA is providing and attend the ULA. I really wish this had existed when I first moved up into management."
