Managing Generational Gaps in the Workplace and Effective Techniques for Managing Problematic Employees is a two day (16-hour) course that is designed to provide an understanding of generational differences in the workplace and managing problem employees.

Day 1:  Managing Generational Gaps in the Workplace
The goal of this course is to provide participants with an understanding of generational differences in the workplace. This fast moving workshop examines and analyzes the differences, similarities and issues involving people of different ages that come together in the workplace.  The latest data related to how to manage and motivate younger employees will be presented.  The views, behaviors and attitudes of the different generations are explored and you will find new ways to view and work with the other generation.

This class will:

�  Identify current trends
�  Highlight ideas about behavior and attitude differences
�  Provide motivation, leadership and supervision ideas
�  Provide structural suggestions for managing generational differences
 

Day 2: Effective Techniques for Managing Problematic Employees
Problem employees steal energy, time and focus from you, your team and the clients you serve.  The goal of this course is to provide participant with the skills to recognize the games that are actually being played by problem employees and the why problem employees are motivated to play these games.  You will also learn how to turn many of the negatives into positives for your team.

This class will help you:

�  Understand the games problem employees play
�  How problem employees impact you, your team, and your organization
�  Develop successful strategies for managing problem employees 
   state government supervisory positions (City Manager's office, public
   works, etc.).


INSTRUCTOR:
Dr. Lewis Bender is Professor Emeritus at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.  He has researched and taught a wide variety of courses related to management and supervision.  His primary research focus has been on organizational teams and the myriad factors and variables that impact team processes and effectiveness.  Dr. Bender received his Ph.D. from the University of Georgia (1977), Masters Degree from Wayne State University (1973), and baccalaureate from Grand Valley State University (1971).

  • Public Service Supervisors and Managers including, law enforcement, city, county or state government supervisory positions (City Manager's office, public works, etc.).
