TOPIC:

Working Behind Bars is very challenging and every day different problems and situations dictate the outcome of the officer returning home safely. Officers make decisions continuously during the work shift that affect many they are supervising. With today's society changing with technology, it is also reducing many of our officers abilities to communicate effectively and possess the problem solving skills many officers had to possess in the past to be so successful.

This 8 or 16 hour course deals with many of the issues of Working in Corrections. It includes first hand experiences and findings of Working Behind Bars, classroom lecture and several practical classroom exercises.

Working Behind Bars covers many different liability issues as well as ways to reduce these issues. Officers will understand that the issues rest not only on the agency but the officer as well. The training will show how Leadership and managing your personal life can reduce many liabilities, while also teaching certain skills and techniques to be a complete officer.

This course is dedicated to building leadership skills, communication skills, and problem solving skills missing from many of our great officers.

At the end of the course, students will be able to:

1. Understand different types of leadership
2. Understand the steps of problem solving.
3. Understand different types of Counseling.
4. Build on public speaking.
5. Define leadership.
6. Understand the many different cultures in our society and how to work with them.
7. Discuss many of the liabilities connected with Corrections

At the end of this course, students will understand how every decision made during his/her shift can reduce liabilities. Students will be able to professionally conduct interviews, build communication skills, and develop leadership skills.
