TOPIC:
This cutting edge course is designed to teach Law Enforcement officers how cell technology works, how it can be utilized in an investigation, and how to obtain the correct data needed from the mobile phone companies.
Cell phone records, including cell site location information, are some of the most useful but misunderstood forms of investigative data. With the prolific use of mobile devices use within the criminal community, the ability to understand and access this technology for investigations is no longer optional.
Through use of videos, pictures, animations and accounts of events that have occurred, the instructor will train you how to effectively gather vital information from cell tower records and cell phones to use in the prosecution of criminals.
You will Learn:
1. To determine the cellular phone company.
3. To issue a court order or search warrant for the cell phone and tower records.
4. To analyze and prepare the records using Microsoft Excel.
5. To plot the data using Google Earth Pro, which includes:
a. Preparing the records using Excel.
b. Importing the records into Google Earth Pro.
c. Identifying Target Towers.
d. Plotting the Target Towers on the map.
e. Estimating sector or device parameters.
f. Plotting relevant physical addresses.
6. To use the maps to aid the investigation and prepare for trial.
INSTRUCTOR:
Kevin Metcalf has served as a police officer, Border Patrol Agent, SWAT team member, field training officer and police instructor. After the attacks of 9-11, Kevin worked as a Federal Air Marshall, serving as a team leader for several international missions. Following his time in law enforcement, Kevin attended the University of Arkansas-School of Law where he obtained his Juris Doctor degree. He now serves as a deputy district attorney prosecuting felony and misdemeanor crimes. Kevin is a graduate of the National Computer Forensics Institute and is an expert in the use of cell phone and cell tower technology in criminal investigations. Kevin's vast experience as a police officer and prosecutor gives him a unique perspective and insight on how this technology can be used to build a criminal case from the streets to the courtroom.
TARGET AUDIENCE: All members of the criminal justice and legal community. Training is especially valuable for criminal investigations officers and prosecutors. A laptop computer is not mandatory but is recommended.
