Hope EPC Trunk or Treat
Sunday, October 26th, 6:00 to 7:30pm
Trunk or Treat is an alternative (or addition) to "trick or treat." The parking lot is lined with the tail ends of costumed cars. Children move from trunk to trunk playing small games in order to win a treat. Of course it's also a good excuse for us to show off our own costumes! All friends and neighbors of HOPE Presbyterian Church are invited. Bring your costumed kiddos for a night of fun, games, and or course lots of treats. More Info .

What's Happening at UMW?
...This from Jess Molzahn, UMW Intervarsity Staff
-The year started with student leaders knocking on every single freshmen door (500+ doors!) to welcome them to UMW, give them a welcome bag, and invite them to InterVarsity. Since then leaders have continued to knock on doors and follow up and freshmen are getting involved! Please pray this would continue.

-At the first Large Group of the year, a woman came to faith in Jesus and 36 others, including many freshmen, said 'yes' to follow Jesus into mission at UMW! Since then 19 more have said 'yes' to Jesus' mission and another said 'yes' to following Jesus! Please pray that the Lord would continue his great work in their lives.

--While I'm grateful for the Lord is doing incredible things, it's exciting to realize it's only October. As Eugene, a sophomore small group leader, put it: "This is amazing. But It's only October! Imagine what could be if everyone kept inviting people."

Feeding The Homeless - Nov 16

Sunday, November 16 is our next Sunday for serving a meal for the homeless of Fredericksburg with New Generation Ministries.  You can help by contributing money or time, heating up lasagna, cooking green beans or setting up and serving food at the facility.  You can sign up online or in the Welcome Binder in the next weeks.

Special Thanks to all the Christ Covenant folks who answered the call to help serve this past Sunday.  A last minute problem left New Generation without servers for the Sunday afternoon meal, and 6 people changed their afternoon plans to step in and help.

Learn the New City Catechism: One Question Per Week

Each week we'll be posting a question and answer from the New City Catechism, along with a brief video explanation.

Question 43:
What are the sacraments or ordinances?
Answer:

The sacraments or ordinances given by God and instituted by Christ, namely baptism and the Lord's Supper, are visible signs and seals that we are bound together as a community of faith by his death and resurrection. By our use of them the Holy Spirit more fully declares and seals the promises of the gospel to us.

Jesus and the Two Mars Hills
from Pastor Bill's Blog

I was struck recently by sad news about the two Mars Hill churches, which reminded me once again of my own need for Jesus.

You know the two Mars Hill churches?

The one in Seattle was founded by Mark Driscoll and experienced dramatic growth under his spiritually abusive leadership. Pastor Driscoll resigned recently amidst the scandal of that abusiveness.

The other Mars Hill church is in Grand Rapids, MI. It was founded and led by Rob Bell until he resigned to pursue his own take on a modern faith. It was a take that left behind the historic foundations of Christian faith.  Rob and I are graduates of the same seminary.

And then there is Jesus, of whom John wrote:
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. . . . For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. - (John 1:14, 17)
EPC giving to Iraqi Christian relief surpasses $75,000

As of October 16, EPC churches and individuals have given more than $75,000 to support Iraqi Christian relief through Christian Aid Mission (CAM). These gifts are supplying displaced people with food, clothing, beds, and medicine-and the opportunity to see the love of Christ demonstrated in a tangible way.

At Christ Covenant, even in a challenging economic situation, we continue to invest 10% of our weekly income into ministries beyond our doors.  These ministries include this CAM need as well as InterVarsity - UMW, FXBG Young Life, Spotsy Habitat for Humanity, FXBG Pregnancy Center and Paul Stefan home.
