Prayer For UMW's Intervarsity Chapter Camp

UMW InterVarsity students will begin one week at Rockbridge this Sunday. Staff worker Jess Molzahn will be there for two weeks. She passes along these prayer requests:

-Students that are not Christians to come to faith.

-Me as I preach about 8 times over 2 weeks

-Students would come away with a greater sense of what Jesus is calling them to on campus.

-For the impact this week to continue on campus.

-For safety.

Condolences
To Mary Lynn and Pastor Bill Lindner at the death of Mary Lynn's mother on April 18.  JoAnn Sadler had been in declining health in Beaufort, NC, then suffered a major stroke on Wednesday, and passed away two days later on that Friday.  Mary Lynn and Bill were able to be with her in her final days, but no final Memorial Service arrangements have been made.

Communion Sunday

This practice was given by Jesus to all His followers in every culture and time period to "reconnect" them in an ongoing way to His death on the cross and resurrection. All who aspire to place the trust of their life in Jesus Christ are welcome to receive and participate in Sunday morning's communion, regardless of your church membership or denominational affiliation.

Waterboarding Is Not Baptism
I was more than floored to hear Sarah Palin recently declare that if she were in charge, terrorrists "would know that waterboarding is how we baptize terrorists." Not sure whether I am more offended by the sacrilege, the misunderstanding of baptism and Christianity or the

undermining of the Great Commission. I highly recommend this Gospel Coalition blog post by retired Marine Joe Carter that sheds thoughtful insight on the matter. -- Pastor Bill

For anyone to confess Christ as their savior and to compare one of the means of God's grace to an act of torture is reprehensible. I hope members of Gov. Palin's local church will explain to her why her remarks denigrate the Christian faith. Such remarks bring shame on the Body of Christ and to our witness in the world . . . . Learn With The New City Catechism:
One Question per Week
Each week we'll be posting a question and answer from the New City Catechism, along with a brief video explanation.

Question 18: Will God allow our disobedience and idolatry to go unpunished?
No, every sin is against the sovereignty, holiness, and goodness of God, and against his righteous law, and God is righteously angry with our sins and will punish them in his just judgment both in this life, and in the life to come.
