Five Adult Fans
"Every kid needs five adult fans. Any young person who shows any interest in Christ needs a minimum of five people of various ages who will say, 'I'm going to love that kid until they are fully walking as an adult member of this congregation.'"...
Relationship is the key element.  Among twentysomethings who remain active in their faith beyond high school 59% report having a close personal friendship with an adult inside the church, according to a Barna study.  Furthermore, 28% of Millennials who stayed active had an adult mentor at church, other than their pastor.

One-Way Love:

Inexhaustable Grace For An Exhausted World

One of the writers that most feeds my heart with hope and encouragement - which is to say the Gospel of Grace! - these days is Tullian Tchividjian. The world sees him as pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church and grandson of Billy Graham, but I recognize him as a fellow "gospel junkie." Here is a chance to see a recent 7 minute interview of Tullian on MSNBC's Morning Joe regarding his latest book One Way Love.

Click here to see the video (sorry for the GE ad!) and to read chapter 5 of that book entitled Ex-Convicts, Failed Disciples, and One-Way Love.

In another recent interview Tchividjian said:

While attacks on morality will always come from outside the church, attacks on grace will always come from inside the church because somewhere along the way we've come to believe that this whole thing is about behavioral modification and personal moral improvement. We've concluded that grace just doesn't possess the teeth to scare us into changing. As a result we get a steady diet of "do more, try harder" sermons; we get a "to do list" version of Christianity that causes us to believe the focus of the Christian faith is the life of the Christian. So we end up hearing more about "Christian living" than the Christ. - Read  more by Clicking Here
 Quarterly Financial Snapshot
Third Quarter of 2013
Month of September 2013 (Numbers Rounded)
     Income: $13,625
     Expenses: $13,800
January Thru September 2013 (Numbers Rounded)
     Income: $110,975
     Expenses: $119,200

Furloughs, shutdowns, debt ceilings - Everyone is living in a time of economic uncertainty.  Similarly, Christ Covenant has accumulated a deficit of income to expenses in the first nine months of 2013 of about $8,500. Though we are able to cover this with previously accumulated reserves, the Steering Committee has carefully reviewed our expenses and will continue to monitor both income and expenses in the coming months in order to keep finances balanced.
Specifically:
-Continue with weekly savings of $250 for "Next Step Fund" to accumulate finances for future location.
-Continue setting aside 10% of weekly General Fund giving for Missions, Benevolence and Congregational Care emergencies.
-Drop planned mass mailings to surrounding neighborhoods.
-Drop EPC support from General Fund expense and return to Benevolence Fund.
-Consider extending present leased space for a third year, rather than relocate to larger space in May of 2014.
-Manage expenses as best we can, hoping to hold any major changes until the 2014 budget.

These steps would reduce projected expenses for remainder of the year by nearly $5,000

Your ongoing support, prayer and commitment of the body at Christ Covenant is appreciated.
