There are Only Two Kinds of Sermons

I have come to see that there are really just two ways to preach: one is the gospel, the other is get-better messages. The first is based on God's goodness; the second on self-improvement. Gospel preaching presupposes that, even though we deserve punishment for our sins, Jesus Christ suffered the punishment in our place on the cross. Get-better sermons, on the other hand, is moralistic advice in which a preacher mounts a pulpit to scold the people for not doing more or getting better....

	Meal for Homeless with New Generation This Sunday!
Christ Covenant will be partnering again with New Generation Ministries to provide a meal for Fredericksburg's homeless on Sunday afternoon, August 18th. 	Baptism in the Rappahannock River This Sunday!
August 18th at 5pm We will gather for a worship service at Old Mill Park that will include baptisms in the nearby Rappahannock River and ice cream sundaes afterward. We will meet at Shelter E at 5 pm (click here for a map and more info). Please contact Pastor Bill by email if you want to be included in the baptism.

	Breakfast for Salem Elementary Staff August 26th
Here's a great opportunity to love and serve our community! Christ Covenant will be providing a continental style breakfast for the staff of Salem Elementary on Monday, August 26th to welcome them into the new school year. Click here to see how you can help!

	Gearing Up for a New Season of Children's Ministry!
Are you interested and able to help out? We are *always* in need of people to be a part of our exciting children's ministry in the nursery, preschool and elementary classes. Contact Allison Webb to get involved. FYI September 9th is transition day for all children's classes.

	Supper Groups are back this Fall!
The idea of supper groups is to provide an opportunity for all of us to get to know each better - especially the people we don't normally get to interact with at church. We had a blast last year and hope more people will sign up this time around. Contact Allison Webb if you want to join, or if you need more information.
