Covenant Renewal 2013

Several times through the history of Israel, the Family of God would reassess their life with God and respond with a time of "Covenant Renewal." It was not a change in their faith or identity. They were God's People because of His grace. It was instead a purposeful and renewed step deeper into their faith and identity as Children of God.

This is a practice we have built in from the very beginning at Christ Covenant. Covenant Renewal: a time to review, assess, "look forward" into the year ahead and then prayerfully set "grace goals" for our life in Christ.

This year we will again focus on three areas:

  • Bible Reading
  • Prayer
  • Service

As part of our worship on Sunday, January 20 we will have opportunity to respond to God's grace with our own goals for 2013.  Click Here for a downloadable 2013 Grace Goal form.

Reading The Bible in 2013
Here's a great post from Justin Taylor:

Do you want to read the whole Bible this year?

If the average person reads 200 to 250 words per minute, and if there are about 775,000 words in the Bible, then it would take less than 10 minutes a day to read the whole Bible in a year.

Audio Bibles are usually about 75 hours long, so you can listen to it in just over 12 minutes a day.

But a simple resolution to do this is often an insufficient. Most of us need a more proactive plan.
2012 Giving Statements for IRS

Giving Statements are available:
1) Beverley Bouchard will be available after worship to download and print out a statement upon request for the first two Sundays in January.
2) Online at the "ChurchBook" portion of the church website.  Click Here, then log in, and click "Go to my profile" near the top right corner of the page.  Click the "Financial" tab from below your address information and picture.  Under the "Printable Statements" column, choose "Giving Statement."  In the "Giving Statements" window, use the drop-down menus to choose the appropriate filters - ie. under "Date Range" choose "Quick Date Range --> This year" to get a statement for 2012, and it will produce a report that can be printed or saved as a .pdf file.

Thanks To All Who Helped With  Angel Tree Christmas Gifts for Children

Christ Covenant provided gifts for several students at Salem Elementary School and children of inmates at the Rappahonnock Regional Jail.

Angel Tree With Gifts
I delivered the gifts to Salem Elementary School and spoke with Principle Harold Morton on Monday, the first day back after the Newtown shootings.  I'm thankful for our ongoing relationship with the Salem staff.

Leyda Bouchard Memorial Blood Drive

As we all look to the New Year, we, as a family, are specifically looking to February 9th as that is the day for Leyda's memorial Blood Drive. Please click on the link to make an appointment.

We are very thankful to Spotsylvania Presbyterian Church for joining with us and allowing us to use their space for the drive. Last year we had gift cards from Chic Fil A and birthday cake from Paul's Bakery.....I wonder what we will be able to share this year!?

New Generation Outreach

Volunteer Coordinator Needed

We have the opportunity with New Generation Outreach (Folks who led worship on November 11) to join them by serving meal for approximately 80 people on one Sunday afternoon every other month beginning February 17. They have experience and recipes, we need to identify a single-point-of-contact coordinator to lead the congregation in meeting this need. If you would like to know more or serve in this way, contact Pastor Bill by email.

Take A Pen,
 & Give It Away!

Sort of like a message in a bottle!  We have Christ Covenant pens engraved with contact information that you can pick up at any service.  Take several.  Give them away.  Leave them with the wait staff when you pay for lunch or sign for your credit card. Hand them out to invite someone to Christ Covenant.  How creative can we be?!?
