The best MMIC mixers on the market are now available in surface mount packages. Four models are available in standard diode level formats, in addition to the high level diode MM1-0424SSM. Each of these mixers is in a 3mm QFN with a commercial standard layout, making them form fit compatible replacements for many competing MMIC mixers. Traditional hybrid mixers built with Silicon Schottky diodes have long had an advantage over GaAs MMIC mixers: multiple diode levels. With different turn on voltages, designers can determine their own tradeoff between LO drive power and desired P1dB, IIP3, and spurious suppression. This is one of the main reasons that Marki has long specialized in Silicon Schottky mixers.

Now as documented in Microwave Journal, Marki is pleased to announce GaAs MMIC mixers with multiple options for LO drive level. The combination of the precise fabrication tolerances of a MMIC process, Marki's deep knowledge and understanding of mixer design, and the most modern CAD tools available have allowed us to offer double balanced mixers with excellent performance, including LO-RF isolations of nearly 50 dB. With the addition of multilevel diode options, these mixers become even more flexible and attractive to system designers.

The first offering of the new diode levels are the MM1-0424SCH, MM1-0424SSM, and MM1-0424SS, corresponding to the bare chip, surface mount, and module package of the chip, respectively. This mixer offers the same high isolation and low conversion loss of other GaAs mixers in Marki's catalog, but with a 5 dB improvement in P1dB and IIP3. Other variations of both high and low barrier diodes are available for most catalog models, and many will be released in the near future.
