K-8 ENRICHMENT FORM DUE TOMORROW!
It's time to choose Enrichment Classes for the 2016-2017 school year!

Here, you will find the list of enrichment choices that will be offered this year. You and your child will be making choices only one time for the entire school year and that time is now!

Enrichment takes place during 7th period each day, except on Wednesdays. Enrichment allows Radcliffe students the opportunity to learn new skills, explore new interests, develop emerging skills, and expand their problem solving abilities.

Throughout the year, your child will have two different enrichment classes during each term/quarter: one that will meet on Mondays and Thursdays and the other that will meet on Tuesdays and Fridays. Read all of the options carefully with your child, and then choose ten (10) classes that are of interest. We will do our best to schedule your child in the enrichment classes of their choice; however, there are no guarantees.

Forms must be submitted by 9 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2016. Please select "Yes" for only eight classes. Then choose "No" for all of the other choices. If your child's selections are not submitted, your child will be assigned to an Enrichment class by the school.

Enrichment Classes will begin Monday September 12, 2016.

Again, here is the link to the form. Thank you!
PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT - ORTON GILLINGHAM
Each week, we will be highlighting one of our programs to illustrate The Radcliffe Way!

For many students at Radcliffe Creek, learning to read is a struggle. In order for our students to acquire the necessary skills in a fun and unique way, the use of a researched-based, multi-sensory approach has been incredibly successful. The Orton-Gillingham method of reading instruction developed by Dr. Samuel T. Orton and educator, Anna Gillingham, utilizes phonetics and emphasizes visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles. It is a highly systematic, multisensory, synthetic, phonetic approach, which simultaneously builds reading, writing, and spelling skills. Instruction begins by focusing on the structure of language and gradually moves towards reading. The program provides students with immediate feedback and a predictable sequence that integrates reading, writing, and spelling.

The Orton-Gillingham method is language-based and success-oriented. The student is directly taught reading, handwriting, and written expression as one logical body of knowledge. Learners move step by step from simple to more complex material in a sequential, logical manner that enables students to master important literacy skills. This comprehensive approach to reading instruction benefits all students.  For more information regarding how Radcliffe implements this approach, please contact Debbie Cohee-Wright, Reading Department Head and Learning Specialist.

2016-2017 PRINT CALENDAR
The 2016-2017 print calendar will sent home with students by the end of this week and the 2016-2017 print directory will be sent home by the end of next week. Please let Jacki Payne know if you do not receive either. Thank you!
AROUND THE CREEK
Ari makes leaves out of tissue paper for the fall tree in Little Creek's Two's Room!

In art class, students played a game to learn the rules and routines of the classroom. Returning students helped the new students as they tried to answer questions or find things in the art room. Lots of fun and a great way to get to know each other!

Students in Ms. Usilton's Discovery classes donned revolutionary-era hats and practiced writing with quills to get into the spirit of learning about the 18th Century!

This week Little Creek's Four's class ended its Back to School theme with its first whole group cooking activity! Together, the students measured and mixed ingredients for Kissing Hand Cookies. Yum!
