2012 International Residential Code (IRC) in effect statewide, as of January 1

Act 390 of the 2013 Legislature included the latest version (2012) mechanical part and the 2009 energy conservation part.  This law will go into effect January 1st, 2014.  Once the law goes into effect, the Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code Council (LSUCCC)  must review and amend these two parts.  LSUCCC will begin this process after the January 1st, 2014 effective date.  After the amendment and review process, the LSUCCC will promulgate rules, giving notice of the amendments for the mechanical and energy parts. Therefore, the effective date of these two parts is unknown at this time. LHBA will notify its members the effective date of the new rules.

The 2012 IRC parts that will go into effect on January 1st, 2014 are:
Part II - Definitions
Part Ill - Building Planning and Construction
Part VI - Fuel Gas

Currently in effect until the state amends and updates:
Part IV-Energy Conservation (2006)
Mechanical Supplement (2006)

Not included in the IRC LSUCCC:
I-Administrative
VII-Plumbing
VIII-Electrical

MassMutual Louisiana offers life insurance, disability income insurance, and investments through its network of career agents and brokers. Through economic booms and downturns, hurricanes and recovery efforts, Louisiana residents and businesses have relied on us to help secure their financial futures. We believe that in order to build long-lasting relationships with our clients, we also have to serve our agents and staff as well as the communities in which we all live and work.

You know what it takes to build a successful business. It takes vision, preparedness, skills and desire - and a focused dedication to achieving your goals. If you are like most business owners, you've worked hard and made many sacrifices to grow your business. No business plan is complete without a financial strategy for the unexpected. Start by exploring all your protection options. Then develop a long-term strategy that can help protect the continuity of your business should you, a partner, or key employee decide to retire, leave the business, or unexpectedly dies or becomes disabled.

If you need more information on these strategies, contact our financial services professionals, Gene Chierci and Cham Mehaffey, or Donald G. Scully, Jr., general agent, at 1 Galleria Boulevard, Suite 909, Metairie, LA, Tel: 504-299-8971. www.louisiana.massmutual.com
