Forgiveness 101
Katie Kinnison preaching

We hear a lot of talk about forgiveness in the church.  We are told every Sunday that we are forgiven, and we are told that it is essential that we forgive.
But it seems like no one ever tells us how.  And it seems sometimes that forgiving someone who keeps hurting us flies completely in the face of justice, let alone self-preservation.  Forgiving sometimes sounds like a really bad idea, like something only a doormat would do.
I think, as a culture, even as a church culture, we do not really really understand what it means to forgive or why forgiveness is, in fact, so central to our faith, so vital to our health as individuals and as communities.  So, join us for Gathering this Sunday, and let's figure it out together.

Yours in Christ, forgiven and forgiving,
Katie

This scholarship was established in memory of Jean A. Mortland because of her appreciation for excellent music and advocacy for higher education. She was a member of Covenant for over 40 years and taught at Capital U. Law School. Her family wanted the fund to reflect her love of music, higher education and the Christian faith. The applicant should be pursuing a college or graduate degree in music or theology, be a member of Covenant or associated closely, and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in his/her vocation. Also considered are GPA, financial need, and written recommendations. The candidate must be enrolled in the institution of higher learning to which the gift will be directed. This is a prevention and response program for adults committed to keeping children safe. We teach stranger danger, and tell our children that they have the right to say "no" when someone touches them in a way that makes them uncomfortable. Keeping children safe from sexual abuse is the responsibility of grown ups. Learn how to create and sustain safe communities for children and leave with real strategies that make can make a difference. The sexual abuse of children is actually on the decline because of hard work, commitment and programs like this. But the fight is not over.
We'll have two workshops. If you're interested but can't attend, let Katie Kinnison know. To register, contact Katie. I you're going to work with children or youth at our church, this training is required. Covenant is committed to being a welcoming, loving and safe space for children.

Orange Days 25th of Each Month: Say No
End Violence Against Women and Girls
Justice and Peace Ministry asks you to join us and others around the world in working for an end to violence against women and children by participating in Orange Days. Violence against women and girls takes many forms - domestic violence, sexual violence, violence of poverty and economic inequality, so called "honor killings," human trafficking and more. Wearing orange on the 25th of each month is a way of saying that we are against this violence. Take pictures with friends wearing orange and post them on social media. Awareness is a powerful tool in ending violence. On the 25th of each month, let's see orange everywhere we go!

Save Pop/Soda Tabs
For several years, Covenant Justice and Peace Ministry has sponsored a collection of pop/soda tabs to benefit the Ronald McDonald House at Children's Hospital. Please remove can tabs and save them for this worthwhile cause. There is a place for tabs at the end of the coat racks.
