YOUR DEACONS
The Deacons are serving the congregation in ways that answer needs that arise. Do you have an hour or more to give to your fellow member: visit a shut-in, take a meal, help an hour or more at a Covenant memorial service reception, sit with a person while a family member runs errands, or do an errand or drive someone to an appointment or to church. A little extra attention to someone shines a bright light on their day. If you know a member with a need, or for more information contact Carol Petro, 485-0994, jpetroball@ao,com.

Dear Covenant friends and family,

The children are in charge this weekend, and worship will be a blast!  Our Treasure Finders have been studying prayer, waiting for God, and the Lord's Prayer this year.  Our worship flows from what they have been learning.  Covenant children will help us all to remember our baptisms and the boundless love of God in both services.  While the children will be present in greater numbers and do most of the worship leading at 11:00, you should know that they worked to help design, inspire and pray for the structure of this service.  The plan for our worship this week is their gift to their church, to our church -- to the people of Covenant.  One of the really brilliant things about our life together is that our children know that this place is home, this place is full of love for them, this is their church, too.

Our sermon text is from the gospel of Luke:  chapter 11: 1-13.  Make sure you read the whole text, or you can make some really wrong assumptions.  Our title for the sermon is "Has Nagging Ever Worked?" -- not that children know anything about this.

Oh, the joy that will be ours this Sunday. . . .  Don't miss it.

Grace and peace,

Katie

THIS SUNDAY, OCTOBER 20

- Children Lead Worship

- 2013 Peacemaking Offering
-
Many of you have enjoyed the delicious food prepared by Freedom a la Cart sponsored by Doma. This year Covenant's portion of the Peacemaking offering is being donated to Freedom a la Cart.
Judge Paul Herbert of Franklin County Municipal Court responded to the cry for justice after years of meeting women in court who were caught up in Human Trafficking. CATCH (Changing Actions to Change Habits) is an innovative, voluntary, two-year program to help women trapped in the sex trade. It uses a restorative-justice approach to helping them through support, encouragement, and accountability to wholeness and restoration.
Through Doma's Bloom! program, CATCH ladies move from victim to survivor through mentorship, life skills, and workforce development via Freedom a la Cart.
Give generously to the Peacemaking Offering and support these women on their paths to new lives.

Tobit: A Book That Didn't Make the Cut
open Bible For Roman Catholic and Orthodox Christians, this book of the bible is in the canon, but not for Protestants. What this means about how we read the book can be discussed, but reading the book is something you don't want to miss. "Combining ethical exhortation with prayers and broad humor, a rollicking plot, and vivid characters, the book of Tobit is both entertaining and edifying." (Oxford Annotated Bible) We've got angels, demons, and difficult wedding nights to contend with here.
