Greetings!
Last Saturday, Richard H. Allen Memorial Hall benefited from a surge of activity. 30 volunteers turned out for our Campus Work Party. Some of the volunteers were regulars who show up every Saturday. Others were recent arrivals to Sitka, attracted by the opportunity to become more involved in their new community. We are thrilled to see how this space can bring people together! Thank you to all who turned out to hang drywall, stain window trim, paint, clean, and help this historic landmark toward a more secure future.
Do you have an hour to volunteer? Come to our next Campus Work Party! All are welcome to join anytime and you can find us in Allen Hall, 9am-3pm every Saturday.
Thank you also to everyone who donated last week! Campus revitalization is a colossal endeavor, and we need your help!

New classes, new instructors, and old favorites:
Athabaskan Beading - Selina Alexander
The Athabaskans call interior Alaska as well as northern Canada home and are related to the Navajo and Apaches. Learn ancient decorative techniques that have been in use for hundreds of years by the Athabaskan people! This class will include beadwork, and porcupine quillwork. Students will create and decorate boxes, bags, or adornments that are both beautiful and functional.
Animation - Meejin Hong Animation is about creating the illusion of life. In this class, students will learn movie magic through a variety of animation techniques including hand drawn animation, object stop motion, paper cut outs, claymation and more. Students will complete individual and group projects to gain an understanding of film language, editing tools, and sound.
Exploring Chamber Music - Susan Wingrove It doesn't matter whether you know a lot about classical music or feel like you know very little... this class will be full of music, practical activities and fun facts to enhance your music appreciation and listening skills! Join longtime Sitka Summer Music Festival music educator Susan Wingrove to get an overview of works featured on this year's exciting programs. Along the way, you will get tips on understanding style and form, how to decode a printed concert program, experience guided listening tours for some of the music that will be played at the Festival, learn stories about some of the composers and their scores, and experience a unit on the work of some outstanding but little-known women composers. And there will be surprise guest speakers/musicians joining us!
