Sitka Fine Arts Camp Newsletter

We Can Do It, If We All Work Together!

Greetings!
This was a big week for us on the campus! Brand new flooring, mirrors and ballet bars were delivered for the Allen Hall Dance Studios.  On Monday, a group of volunteers did some heavy lifting to get the materials to the upstairs classrooms.

On Sunday, workers from Ketchikan and Fairbanks arrived to install the elevator in Allen. They will keep working all week until it's ready to ride!

You're making a difference!
Thank you to everyone that came to volunteer for 100+ Volunteer Day on May 5. We had 120 volunteers working all over the campus. Volunteers were cleaning bathrooms, washing windows, vacuuming, and filling holes in Whitmore and Sweetland, going through the last of inherited materials in Yaw, landscaping and installing sheetrock in Allen.

Another huge thank you to everyone that helped us launch our Save the Campus Video!  Since last Wednesday, 5,489 people have watched the video.  Keep sending it to those you want to share in our story and become part of this project.

Native Jazz Kick-start
The Native Jazz Quartet performed in Sitka during its breakout tour in October. Now the group will be offering a Native Jazz workshop.

"Last year's tour was amazing for the Quartet and the audiences, and we were all very excited by the power of the Native/Jazz fusion." The Quartet will encourage workshop participants to bring melodies of their own native background, and we will give instruction on arranging and composing them in the Jazz idiom. As an audience member put it, "It's an amazing way of re-discovering your own music."

The Quartet has launched a Kickstarter campaign to help bring this workshop to Sitka. Check it out here:

The Native Jazz Workshop will be on the SJ Campus from August 14-18.
