Sitka Fine Arts Camp Newletter

We Can Do It, If We All Work Together!

Greetings!
In this week's SFAC Blog entry, bass player and SFAC instructor Christian Fabian talks about MAGIC that comes from the camp. I know what he's talking about- there is a feeling that I get during camp that is unlike anything I've felt elsewhere. And I think the feeling is catching.

Last Saturday I spent the day volunteering on campus and became aware of that I was experiencing that same feeling of MAGIC. Is it in the air? The water?  I don't know. Maybe it has to do with the fact that you are surrounded by other people that want, and are EXCITED, to be here. Maybe it's the fact that we are all here with a common purpose, working toward the same goal.

I can't exactly put my finger on it, but it's something special, and I know that it's something we want to infuse into every activity on campus!

This was a fun week.  The ArtSpaces After School Classes are in the middle of their second session.  Enrollment has increased from the first session, and the students seem to be having a ball! Thank you to all of our instructors.

On Wednesday night, Sitka Conservation Society held a benefit dinner for their Fish to Schools program at Sweetland Hall. Chef Colete Nelson prepared a fresh fish dinner for a sold out house. (The fresh paint and SCS's fishy decorations made the Dining Hall look great!)

SFAC student found out what classes they will be in this summer, and it is creating quite the buzz. Musical Theater Camp is open for Registration until May 1: interested campers should go to www.finartscamp.org.

Work in Allen Hall continues: Dance floors, mirrors and bars have been ordered for the upstairs Dance Studios. 2 of the three rooms are primed and ready for a coat of paint! Sheetrock is being hung downstairs, and we've picked out a tile/paint combination for the bathrooms.

Join us for a big volunteer work party tomorrow, April 28. We only have 5 Saturdays left until June! Volunteers can come anytime, starting at 9am. There will be jobs of all types, for different skill levels. As always, lunch will be served!
Save the Campus Video Launch
Coming May 9, 2:30pm
Sitkans and the SFAC community have shown their dedication to the Revitalization of the Sheldon Jackson Campus with  23,000+ hours of volunteer work and over $750,000 in monetary and in-kind contributions. As you know, this is a big project, and we have only scratched the surface.

Help us bring national attention and support to this project.

On Wednesday May 9, Sitka Fine Arts Camp will release a new, never-before-seen video, made by Hannah Guggenheim. This video will highlight the efforts of our volunteers and will be a catalyst to help us tell this story to others around the country.

You can help with just one click. The video will be posted on YouTube. To help us launch the video, send it on to your own contacts via email, facebook and twitter.  By coordinating the time we send the video (2:30pm AKST) we will maximize the amount of noise we make on the internet.

So mark your calendar!
