Sitka Fine Arts Camp Newsletter

We Can Do It, If We all Work Together!

Greetings!
We want the Sheldon Jackson Campus to be a resource for Alaska and its creative thinkers. This week, a need for student lodging exemplified what an asset the campus is for our community: Over 500 Alaska students came to town for the 2012 Southeast Music Fest. It's a long-standing tradition that students traveling for sports and music events in Alaska are housed with members of the hosting community. Of this year's Music Fest talented participants, 75 were housed in Sweetland Hall on the SJ Campus.

Fresh Paint

The Dining Hall in Sweetland (pictured above) just received a facelift. Did you know that the room used to sport seven different colors of paint? We have cut that number down to two. It has changed the way you feel when you walk through the doors, and the change is significant! The Dining Hall is now clean, crisp and welcoming.

This week, we will focus on Sweetland's professional kitchen. We will clean floors, equipment, and dishes in preparation for upcoming events. On Wednesday April 25 Sitka Conservation Society will hold a Benefit Dinner for its Fish to Schools program (all community members are invited!) and on Saturday May 5, SeaMart will provide lunch for Sitka Fine Arts Camp's 100+ Volunteer Day.
Volunteer Work Party
Saturday April 21, 9am
The project whiteboard will be outside of Yaw Art Center (across the road from the back of Allen.) Join us for cleaning, painting and gardening! As always, a great lunch will be served. If you can't make it feel free to drop off a dish for the volunteers.
Registration still open for Musical Theater Camp

Sitka Fine Arts Camp Musical Theater Camp, July 16-July 29, will offer students the opportunity to put on a full-length Broadway musical performance. Students will receive individualized attention from our track directors, whether their primary interest lies in performance, music or design.

Register by May 1. www.fineartscamp.org.
