We want to make sure that, each summer, this Campus is more beautiful and welcoming than the last. The warm weather is a (welcome!) reminder that June is now less than two months away. The list of projects is ambitious: re-vamp Sweetland lobby and dining hall, install showers in Fraser Hall, deep clean bedrooms and classrooms, and complete phase one in Allen, making it usable for the summer.
Your support is key to the success of the campus. (an image of Atlas with the world on his shoulders comes to mind!) We ask that you make a commitment to help in some way this month- whether that means making a donation, volunteering or both.
Getting the Birds' Eye View with Harris Air
Director Roger Schmidt and our volunteer professional video/photo team was able to see SJ from a different angle-- from above! (pictured above.)
Thank you to Harris Air for the donation of the plane ride. You've given us a new perspective!
Thodos Dance Chicago
On Wednesday, Thodos started the day with an assembly for 400+ Sitka students from Baranof, Keet, the SEER School, home-school and the Seventh Day Adventist School. The dancers worked through genres, techniques and performance- all with enthusiastic participation from the kids.
Thodos Dance Chicago was the first professional dance company to come to town, and 508 eager Sitkans filled the Performing Arts Center for Wednesday evening's performance. I've heard since from viewers that "that stage just seems meant for dance."
Congratulations to campers Aryeh Lax and Chaya Pike for their achievement at this year's Poetry Out Loud Competition. Poetry Out Loud is a national poetry recitation competition sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. This year, Aryeh Lax took the title of state champion and Chaya Pike came in as first runner-up.
Congratulation to Roger Schmidt for being named into a State Hall of Fame. Sitka Fine Arts Camp's Executive Director was selected for the Alaska School Activities Association's Hall of Fame.
