We Can Do It, If We all Work Together!

Greetings!
For eight weeks in February and March we offered our first session of ArtSpaces after school arts classes.  Thanks to Sandra Fontaine's hard work we were able to offer great classes in drawing, painting and writing. The kids really seemed to enjoy all of the hands on work and were excited to show off what they accomplished.

Now we are excited to announce a special Spring break workshop and the second session of our ArtSpaces classes.

SPECIAL SPRING BREAK WORKSHOP: MARCH 20 and 21

STILL LIFE PAINTING (Instructor: Rebecca Poulson)

This will be a still life painting workshop, using tempera paint, learning to use shading, highlights, overlapping, and size to create the illusion of three dimensions. (Grades 4-6)

SESSION TWO CLASSES:

DRAWING PROJECTS (Instructor: Norm Campbell)

This is a class for young artists who enjoy drawing. The first classes will focus on improving drawing skills, while the remainder of the session, students will work on various drawing projects. The project may be a book, folio, or mural based on the preference of class members.

EXPERIMENTING WITH OIL PASTELS

(Instructor: Sandra Fontaine)

Drawing simple objects and and creating simple compositions with oil pastels. We will also add watercolor washes, and may use different kinds of papers to achieve different effects.

PRINTMAKING (Instructor: Sandra Fontaine)

Lessons in designing and creating a set of prints. We will use the Styrofoam technique, which allows students to draw freely without injury (no use of knives or carving tools). Students will learn to use different methods of inking their work, to create a variety of effects with one original work, how to make a series of prints, and also view other kinds of printmaking to become familiar with the process of printmaking in general.

Let's Tell A Story

(Instructor: Elena Gustafson, through the Island Institute)

Learn lots of writing tricks and storytelling secrets in this writing lab. We'll play around with the endings to fairy tales, spin stories from the perspectives of aliens and super heros, try our hand at comic strips, and make up some mysteries! Spelling doesn't matter-just come with a love of stories and a good imagination.

Sitka Fine Arts Camp Work Party

Did you miss out last week? Join us this Saturday! After all of that mudding work, we are now ready to sand the Spackle! It will be light and easy physical work- everyone is invited.  Please meet at Allen Hall starting at 9am. Lunch will be provided.

If we finish sanding tomorrow, we clear the way for Pete to complete the finishing steps on the drywall in the Allen classrooms! Help us get it done!
