| Greetings! |
What inspires you? The Sitka Fine Arts Camp seems to capture inspiration, distill it and release it into the atmosphere to affect everyone it touches. Our staff and Board members have known this, and tried to articulate it for a long time. Our students can sometimes put it into words: "It is so much like a community, it is almost like an entirely different state of being." (-Leslie, camper 2011) Some our instructors are showing that they feel it, too. Amanda Crockett, WT McRae and Jodi Gelbman spent two weeks teaching Physical Theater and Storytelling in Keet Gooshi Keen Elementary, Baranof Elementary and Blatchely Middle School. In total, they worked with 640 Sitka kids, held a Professional Development workshop for 40 teaches at the elementary schools and created and performed 2 shows.
By design of the artists, this residency also included work on an original Physical Theater piece that the three will continue to develop as a team. The idea to collaborate on this piece came about last summer at the Sitka Fine Arts Camp. According to Crockett, the feeling of being surrounded by so many creative people from so many disciplines was special. It made them ask, "What if we could do this outside of the summer, too?" The SFAC instructors came up with the idea of creating a Theater Company based in Sitka as a way to keep working together.
During their two-week residency Crockett, McRae and Gelbman spent 26 hours conceiving and creating their first collaborative piece. I was lucky enough to see what they were working on and I can say it will be beautiful and thought-provoking. This is a piece they plan to keep developing over the next few months and during camp. Stayed tuned for updates!

Rainy Day Doll-Makers
| |
Angela Jayrecki came to Sitka from Houston, Texas to lead a 3-day workshop with the Rainy Day Doll-makers in Rasmuson last week. The Doll-makers meet each month and bring in a different artist each year. It looked like so much fun and the finished dolls are incredible!

Record-Breaking Registration
| This week was a milestone for us as we begin our second year of programming on the Campus. On Wednesday we closed online registration for our high school session and asked parents to call to register. On Thursday our phone rang off the hook and by the afternoon, all available beds at Camp were filled by eager campers looking forward to summer. We still have space left for day students are are now taking a waiting list for housing while we are busy looking for ways to accommodate more kids. Registration this year is record-setting. Our Circus Camp filled last week, and the Elementary and Middle School sessions are nearly three quarters full. We are excited to welcome our students for the summer.
It is the kids and the inclusive community they create that makes Camp the transformative experience it is. This week has our renewed commitment to meet growing demand and make our programs available to more students. Stay tuned for upcoming information about our Musical Theater Camp and Adult Fine Arts Camp.

Raise it Up! Allen Auditorium Elevator
| Allen Auditorium was left mid-renovation when the College shut its doors. Along with materials left lying in wait were pieces for the new elevator.
We have only a short amount of time until the equipment will go out of code and we need to start from square one.
Help us beat that clock. We need to raise $40,000 to pick up those pieces and put them in their place.
