Sitka Fine Arts Camp Newsletter

We Can Do It, If We all Work Together!

Greetings!
There is new energy on the campus now that the new year has begun!  Camp registration opened January 1 and 186 students have already enrolled. This is our highest enrollment EVER!

The Sitka Rotary Club came to campus for an official, guided tour earlier this week. Led by our Board President, Peter Apathy, the tour went through Rasmuson, Allen Auditorium and ended at Stevenson Hall for a presentation about upcoming renovations. There was a great turn out! Thanks for putting us into your schedule.

We also met with Sandra Fontaine about putting together a series of after school programs for Sitka students. We are really excited about this! Stay tuned for more details.

A Generous Gift
Gladyce L. Foster left a $100,000 gift in her trust to be used for "the construction and maintenance of dormitories and related student facilities" on the Sheldon Jackson campus. The attorney of her estate and the Trustees of her trust, dedicated to fulfilling her wishes, followed the story of the Campus and its transfer to the Sitka Fine Arts Camp.

Gladyce was not an alumnus of the Sheldon Jackson College, nor had she ever been to Sitka to visit. She believed in a cause.  Thanks to the dedication of her Trustees and attorney, we received this gift from Gladyce.

There is of course a lot to do on the campus, but this is a significant gift that will help preserve the integrity of the buildings themselves.  By replacing a roof, we can protect everything inside that building from water, (very important in Sitka!) weather and decay.

A protected building will allow us to do further revitalization and make upgrades without the fear of losing progress to water damage or other complications.

Thank you to Gladyce and your wonderful team and family.
